Boolean remove

I am trying to make up some soft jaws to hold a part, I want to Boolean remove my part from my solid jaws that I have modeled up. Is there a way to keep the part from disappearing when I remove the part? I think I could just make a copy of the part but it should be easier than that.

Thanks for any help.

It all depends on whether or not you are breaking the original solid into several parts. If you are breaking it up then you can't keep the associativity.

If you trim the driving entities and create two solids instead of one then you can keep your associativity. It's more work but it might give you the end result that you're after.
