Acer Computer and M/C

I am useing a new Acer computer with Windows 2000.

I have master cam 8.1.1 The computer will shut down at random times without warning. Are there other users that have had this problem? What did you do to fix this?

Back up all your stuff and reinstall the system. Do a clean install. If it still kills it self then give it back. Sounds like hardware problems to me.

Like Thomas said it sounds like a hardware problem,if a fresh install doesn't work,would be your ram or something else,don;t forget to update all the patches including SP3 for Windows 2000.

I have had the OS reinstalled. New main board and a new power supply.

Worked well for about two weeks then today in the middle of job

Gone!

Any other thoughts.

Be certain that no metal parts from the motherboard are touching the case.

Does the computer shutdown while you are using it?

 

Or, when you are away from the computer?

 

If it happens when you are away, you may have the system set to go into 'hibernation' after a period of no use.

 

You can check for this when Mastercam is off by . . . 'right-click' in a blank area of the windows desktop - select properties - screen saver - power - power schemes (set home/office desk and set turn off monitor to never). Then if you have the Hibernation tab select that and uncheck "enable hibernation"

It sounds like a driver problem I would suspect video. Your computer is curently set to reboot on a stop "Blue Screen Of Death" so you never see a blue screen. If you press your windows key and the pause button you can set the system properties to not reboot under the advanced tab.

 

Once you have done that check to see what the name of the driver or file name at the top of your "blue screen of death" when it happens again.
