HI JUST GOT NEW SONY SYSTEM ALL IS GREAT BUT THE VIDEO CARD IS JUNK, CRASH CITY!!!

I FOUND A GOOD DEAL ON A ATI RADDON 8500 LE CARD

$129.99 128 MEG RAM.

SONY IS A PENT 4 WITH 512 RAM

I AM TRYING TO WORK WITH SOME FAIRLY DENSE SURFACE FILES AND NEED HELP

STAY AWAY FROM THE ATI!!!!!! Try something with the NVidia chipset (not the low end cards either) or the Matrox Millenium G450 or G550.

Look at the new Gforce Ti series.

Start at about $145.00 to $450.00 and can be found at most computer places.

 

Go to PCclub or even Bestbuy.

Sense you are here in Ca.

 

Or even Fry's

Nothing wrong with ATI's, my favorite, but stay away from LE series. Just got my son an MSI Geforce 3 Ti-2000 with 128 Ram $90 after rebate at Fry's Eelectronics.

Just took a look at E-BAY - searched for 'nvidia video card' - must be a hundred listings from $40 to $100. Do a search on this forum for which cards to be careful of, though.

Some people feel that the ATI card is inadequate.

 

I run an old128 on a 450 with NT on my backup system.

 

I have been doing an informal survey and have found that most people and dealers like the nvidia's.

 

I agree with Jay. I have not tried this card.

 

Anyone out there runnig a gforceti?

Greg I am running a Gforce4 ti.

I have used with MC 3 of them Ti4200,Ti4400 & my favrite the Ti4600.

 

i have not palyed with the Ti4200 with 128ddr ram but the Ti 4200 64ddr ram rocks and is the cheapest of the group.

 

I know of a few mastercam shops running the Ti's. now that I have told them about these cards and are vary happy with every aspect..

I had some serious problems with this card.

After a lot of fiddling around it still does not work correctly with the verification.

Stay away from it.

All the Nvidia cards are great. Geforce cards are really for gaming and more geared towards textured polygons and overlays, none of which are used in Mastercam. The Quadro based cards have better line drawing and antialiasing. it also does a better job of drawing intersecting and overlapping surfaces.

Recently got a Quadro4 64MB. Works perfectly with all my 3ed software. Including QIII
