help - tool crashing

Good Morning,

I was hoping someone could help me with this. I am programming a shaft with undercuts. After I roughed the shaft I come back with a profile style insert to cut some undercuts for grinding. As the toolpath cuts the first undercut it doesn't retract up in X enough to clear the next shoulder and clips the the top of the next dia. I have tried "extend contour to stock" but still have failed to get this to work. Is there a trick to this? Any help would be appreciated.

Greg.

CHECK YOUR SETTINGS in toolpath ref point and look at the dia and adjust to give your tool room to rapid to for clearance .Beware and do not set it to 0 or it will try to rapid there at the end of tool paths.this may be the issue with the tool staying inside a boundary and clipping your part.I most times set it to give me room for all tools to clear the stock by .100 or more and then z.100 for rapid position.IE X 6.0 Z .100 if the stock is say 5.0 dia you get .500 on the Rad for clearance with all tools . cool.gifcool.gif

No, First tool roughs. And then call up another tool to do the undercuts. This operation does have 4 separate chains where after the first cut the tool needs to jump up over the next dia to clear and neck the next chained geometry.

Thanks,

Greg.
