Help in solids

Hello every one.

I have MasterCam 9.1 SP2 with Moldplus and Solids.

I work with MasterCam since version 7, and in with solids only on version 9.

Every time I want to do something I convert every thing to surfaces, then separate cavity from core with Moldplus. After that I convert again to solids and start working with solids...

I think this is not a good way of working, but I cant do everything only with solids... I contact my MasterCam dealer and he tell me that I must use Moldplus to do this work.

Now, I'm ask you, if somebody knows how to work only with solids, because other software can do that, and I lost lots of information converting to surfaces, and then to solids again, an wish to work only in solids...

Kind regards for all

Luis,

I have been a long time programmer and instructor of Mastercam and Moldplus before solids were available. Moldplus is an excellent tool, but depending on the complexity of the core cavity configuration depends how you can separate the core and cavity with solids. If it is straight open close mold you don't have to use moldplus use the solid boolean Add/subtract/common. Moldplus is a tool to give you another option that may or may not be a quicker solution. As you know in Mastercam there is always more than one way to do things. If your dealer is not experienced in this type of work he may not know the answer.

A good basic reference is the soid v-9 book that was sent with the software there is a good basic example in the back showing how to extract the core and cavity from the solid model block. If it is a complex Parting line you are looking to do you may have to create the parting line from moldplus as surfaces and then trim the solid to the surface you create.

Also I have heard mold plus is able or will be able to work with solids in either the maintenace release mr0105 or in X when they release their X version.

Regards,

Steve Arteman
