tooling ball position into cone

I'm using Mcam ver 9 sp1

I have a cone form/surface. It's 1" dia. at large open end and tapers down to .125 dia. at small end.

I have to drop a .500" tooling ball into this cone.

I can create a .500" ball/sphere.

How do I drop it into the cone?

How do I know it's tangent at final position?

Your help is greatly appreciated.

Ken,

Create a curve slice thru your surfaces at the x or y construction. Change your plane to look at the curve you created form front or side view. Create an arc of .25"radius tangent to two entities. Go to solids and create a sphere .25" radius with the base on the center of the arc.

Hope this helps.

Ron

I think if i were doing this i would draw a .5 dia. circle looking from the small end. the circle centered with the center of the .25 dia. then i would creat a curve surface project. select my cone for my surface and my circle as my curve, done, do it.the center of the projected curve is where the center of your ball should be. you may need to convert your projected curve to a circle to be able to find center.
