solid projection

I have a solid that I would like to project the silhouette of directly above it so I can generate a 2d contour around the part. Can anyone lend some insight on some methods of doing this? As always it's appreciated.

You will need to create a 3d wire fram from the solid.

 

Create

Curve

All edges

Solid

under solids options choose solid.

 

then turn off the level that has the solid.

Now use

Xform

Squash

 

this will give you a 2d flate profile.

Solid ->next menu -> Layout

Solid Drawing Layout

 

Use the Solid Drawing Layout function to create a layout of different part views (for example, top, side, front, and isometric), arranged within a standard page. Mastercam automatically places the new drawings on their own level, so you can easily keep them separate from your original part. Once you create the basic layout from this dialog box, you can customize it further. You can use this function multiple times, for the same solid or for different ones; each time you create a new layout, make sure you select a new level for it (unless you want to replace an existing layout).

Note: The Solid Drawing Layout function works on only one solid at a time.

For those who has ver 8.1.1 there is a C-hook on Mastercam site Layout.dll.

You guys are great. Thank you for taking the time to spell everything out so clearly. I'm using ver. 8, and have one more question within the thread; What is the purpose of a C-hook?

Francis Farmer C-hooks are a way adding some more options to the software from people like your self or even quick code.

 

You will find that there are some talented prople on this board that have made some nice add-ons that it this time are not in MC.

 

Beleave it or not some of them get added.

I see, so it's sort of like when I write a an Autolisp code to add features for autocad. That make sense.

It's more like ARX or ADS aplications, actually.
