question about preview toolpath creation

hi guys.

I am doing some exercises in my college's lab with mastercam X3. There is a problem I met. When I finished setting up several parameters for my toolpath, then press ok, I have to take long time to wait mastercam finish its preview toolpath creation. The tool will go through every path carefully which I set up. If I set 10 levels for Z depth cutting, I have to wait 10minutes and see the tool touch every level. So, you can image that, if I make a mistake like set 100 levels for cutting a stuff, the only thing I can do is shut down my computer because during the computer working, any menu is locked up.

do you have any same experience with that? How can I change it? I saw another guy play with mastercam in his laptop. After he set up toolpath, the computer will creat preview toolpath at a very short time and automatically.

I am so confuse about that.

I hope someone could help me out. Thanks a lot

the situation happened in the lab of my school. There are 50 computer which installed mastercam X3. parameters of toolpath display during creation are not special.

Is there any possibility such as educational version can not creat toolpath very quickly, the tool must touch each path level because its not a commercial version?

Main menu - Settings - Configuration

Select the 'Toolpath' page on the System Configuration dialog

and check the 'Toolpath display during creation' settings.

What's different on your system vs. the other system.

hi, roger

I am thinking about one possibility. Maybe, educational version can not creat toolpath very quickly, the tool must touch each path level because its not a real mastercam for commercial purpose?

Speed difference is not because it is an Education seat, there something else different between your 'slow' system and the other 'faster' systems.

Thank you for your replying. but you know what, this situation happens in the lab of my college. There are almost 50computers sit here.

mastercam autocad and inventor are installed in these computer. So I think it's not a computer hardware issue. Anyway, if you find something please tell me

BTY, I have a Cam test next week, my CAM teacher told us that be very careful when setting up depth cuts because the computer will play with itself and out of your contorl. If you set 10+ levels for z depth, just xxxx of computer and do it again. Do you think it's a nice way to learn mastercam?

Thanks

You could try to disable the Hardware Acceleration in the system config (ALT+F8) under screen usually this is for graphic related issues but would not hurt to try. Or you could try playing around with the memory buffering in the sytem config under toolpaths.

Other than that it sounds like a computer related issue. Maybe ask IT if they will uninstall and re-install on one of the computers to see if that helps (make sure it has full read and write privileges) if the issue still occurs then that may narrow it down to a more computer related issue.

Good Luck.
