bar feeder question

I'm new to cnc lathes I'm a mill guy. But I've been cutting my teeth on a Mori Seki SL25 its fun but I need to know are bar feeders universal. Can I take a bar feeder for a newer Mori Seki NL and make it work with our older SL25? If not what bar feeders will work? One more question the SL25 will only take programs posted out long hand no m83 or any can cycles what am I doing wrong is there a setting in the old girl to get it to work?

If the older machine has the proper bar feed interface then yes, you can run it on that machine. As far as canned cycles go, they are usually an option and were most likely not purchased with the machine. You can get them from Fanuc for some $$$.

So I have a Mori Seiki Sl 25 Fanuc 10 T and am trying to make a bar puller I need to figure out how to clamp and unclamp the jaws in the program is this something I need to call Funuc on? Thanks for your time.

on our mori's it's a "M" code to open and close the jaws.

M11 opens the jaw, M10 closes the jaw. spindle must be stopped.

there maybe a parameter that needs to be changed to allow movment with the jaw open.

not sure what # it was.

you will also need dwells after the "M" codes to make sure the jaws are fully open or

closed before cutting.

our hardinge's with hydro bar feeds need the spindle turning to help feed the bar.
