I have this part given to me as a solid. I need to make it into a 2D profile so I can turn it. What is the easiest way without re drawing it?

Create >> Turn Profile

 

Make sure the Lathe Z axis runs through the center

 

You could also use a Create >> Curve >> Slice as well

Typically Bill, that doesn't come out close enough.

 

I only use Silhouette Boundary for containments and such. If I need cutting geometry I shy away from it.

I guess I have only seen a few weird arc profiles when using it, but I only use it for boundaries so I have never analyzed it intensely.. I wish you could rely on that. Would be nice.

Create curve slice is my method of choice. Once you get the geo, use the shift key and click one of the entities, the entire chain should get selected. If there is a break in the chain try rotating the solid about the z axis some oddball number (6.4 deg or something) then do it again.
