  1. Good morning guys, I've been tasked with looking at cutting a very large thread, and I noticed the custom thread option in mastercam. What I'm trying to do is an oversized buttress thread. I've done my best to put in all the parameters and the machine seems to accept everything and is cutting fine. I'm using round edge took for testing. What's happening is that during the thread cycle, using G32, it dwells at the end of the thread instead of pulling out causing a groove. I don't typically use the g32 cycle. Anyway, I don't know if there's an option to prevent that or if it's just the g32 that is doing it. Little help?
  2. Yes I see that. I was wanting to see if the width could be changed on climb or conventional.
  3. Thank you for the explanation. The above quotes are/were not smartass responses. That is the problem with forums. people "assume". I was in no means being a smartass. I truly did not know and figured by "blind" meaning I was not using them properly, and "what is the toolpath designed for" is just that. I thought it was just to remove the material quick and keep the tool engaged in the material as much as possible. I figured I was missing something. And it wasn't just this post Paris referred to. He said every time he responds, I give him a smartass response. This is clearly not the case. i have been nothing but respectful to him. You guys sure are edgy.
  4. Paris I just want to say one thing. Please don't tarnish my name by saying what you did. I just went through a year of my latest posts and I have been very respectful to your responses. I am not sure if you have me confused with someone else. If you took this topic as smartass, I apologize.
  5. Not smartasses at all. I'm actually trying to understand. What am I missing? Am I running the toolpath wrong? Please tell me what they are designed to do? On a side note, please show me other posts where I was a smartass. If you find one, I will surely apologize cause its never my intention. I have a hard time sometimes with your responses cause they are not always complete. Just because you know a lot about Mastercam, does not mean other people will completely understand what you say. Example your first response to this post. You left the post empty by saying it would be a big issue... What would be a big issue? You mean them changing it or just what could happen in the process?
  6. Oh, maybe I misunderstood what they are "designed" to do. Hell I use them all the time. Guess I was using them blind? What are they designed for? What was I doing wrong? Is it really a big issue to have a different chipload one way then another? Seems like a logical switch in the software. Maybe not, I'm not a software developer either.
  7. Are there any options in these toolpaths while using zig zag pattern, to have a different width of cut one way? Example if I'm hogging out a big part, I want to take a heavier radial cut on the climb mill but lighter on the conventional mill. Reason is I get chatter sometimes on the conventional cut, however I don't want to use just climb milling cause it cuts too much air. This possible? If not, does CNC Software ever think this will be a possibility?
  8. So its not just my computer then that bugs out? lol I'm glad you guys have a sense of humor about it but seriously, what is it for?
  9. Can someone please explain to me what the end key function is for? It takes my part and spins it around back and forth. Reason I ask is cause I hit the key once in awhile by mistake. The problem with X7 though, is it doesn't stop and hitting the end key again does nothing. X7 goes into a not responding type state however the part is still flipping around. What is the point of that and can I unbind that key somehow?
  10. Thanks. I guess I just choose "other" and select the V5?
  11. Hi guys. I do not like Cimco edit 6 in X7 therefore I want to use Version 5. I have copied the files from my X6 folder over to the editors folder in X7. How do I point X7 to use Version 5 instead of 6?
  12. John thank you however you have to modify this key. HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Applications\Mastercam.exe\shell\open\command. Change the value data to "C:\Program Files\mcamx7\Mastercam.exe" "%1" The path you give leads to a dead end. Maybe we can sticky this? This should be the same for each version. Just change the mcamx# accordingly.
  13. Ya that's the problem. X7 is not in my list, and when I browse to it, X6 stays active. I believe as well its a registry fix. I'll have to look deeper to see if I can fix it.
  14. I understand that hence why I am asking. When you select a default, it asks for the "application file" in this case "mastercam.exe". V6 and V7 are both called "mastercam.exe". Hell every single version of Mastercam I have worked with is called "mastercam.exe" This is what I am asking. How to get it to open with X7 and not X6. Even if I tell windows to open it with X7 from browsing, it still opens with X6. I'm not sure if I'm explaining this correctly. I'm sure you are not understanding what I am asking.
  15. I realize there are other ways, like file-open however an older file that is saved as an mcx6 will always open with X6 unless its uninstalled. It points to "mastercam" application which is identical for all Mastercam versions. Would be nice if they made the application name to match the version like mcam6 or mcam7 instead of the same every version.
  16. I guess there would not be support on that seeing as they don't support multiple sessions right? lol
  17. Besides the obvious drag the file to X7 icon, how do I get my X6 files to open with X7 without uninstalling X6. I don't want to uninstall X6 at the moment but want to open existing files with X7. Setting open with and a default does not work as both applications are called "mastercam"
  18. Me was the opposite. I never had it happen on X6 but X7 I can re create it every single time. Not sure how you get it to do it on X6 as there is no delay in the close operation. X7 takes a few seconds to close so of course its easy to click the other session while one is closing. X6, I can't move my mouse fast enough to the new session before the other one closes.
  19. Has anyone else noticed how sometimes when multiple sessions are open (X7), if you close one, it sometimes closes all instances? I have had this happen to me quite a few times so far and I've only been on X7 for about 2 weeks at most? The delay in X7 close seems to be when it happens. Eg I close the one tab and while its closing, I click the other tab to go back to the other file and then they end up both closing on me.
  20. Yes I saw that. Support was telling me that. I find that very useless. He showed me the temporary alternative to make it go to 5 axis by adding manual entry. Am I the only one who thinks the new verify blows? Or is it just cause I'm not getting it? lol
  21. I apparently have some issues right now with my machine definition. Support is going to go over it with me via remote assistance. Thanks for the input guys.
  22. Hi guys, just used X7 Verify for the first time and its quite different than what I have been used to for obvious reasons. Anyway I have a few questions. 1) I keep getting this pop up when I start verify. ("Tool for operation #7 has undercuts! Please select from UBV->File->Options->Simulation Engine = 5 axis in order to get correct results) So What does UBV mean first off? And why is this telling me I have undercuts when I don't? 2) Where would I go to set default settings for my preferences for verify? Example stop on collision, show tool holder, etc? 3) Is there an option to use the old verify?

No its not, you're right. What would you do in this case? I'm kind of curious to know as well.
  24. Hmm, seems like you are correct on both issues. I just tried to change the factors and got the same result as well. Never had to change it for mine so I assumed it was that. We all know what assuming does lol. And the finishing I got the same thing. Can't select finishing either. Again I never needed to use that setting as I selected the "operation" I wanted optimized. I have to think that there is a definition somewhere that defines the toolpath as a finish path and it would probably read from that. Sorry I couldn't help you.
