break arcs / allow 360 deg arcs

Just got burned by yet another older Oi that went off and did an errant arc move. I remedied the situation by allowing 360 deg arcs and don't break arcs. I've got another Oi to program for (remotely) and was going to assume those settings again. Would that be a safe assumption? And what could be the disadvantage of having those turned on if not needed?
