Tapping A286

Any thoughts on the best method for tapping A286? Our Tapping guy seems to thinks roll tapping is the approach we should use. I've got some OSG roll taps coming in to try.

a buddy of mine does inconel almost exclusively. he does 2-56, 4-40's and such all with thread mills.

proven process = proven results.

 

a286 can be tough stuff, but i do believe it possesses ductility. whether it is enough for form tapping, i have no idea.

The OSG EXOTAP VC10 will do the job (we use them in inconel and A286 for thread under 5/16) , but thread mill will do it better

Yep, same here. Taps from OSG & Emuge for the smaller holes & threadmill the larger ones. OSG & Emuge both have excellent tap guides in their book & online.
