EDM HELP

We recently purchased an EDM at an auction and need some pointers on it. It is a Mitsubishi model DWC90SB. Most of us here do not have any experience with EDM's and the book did not seem to helpful. The part we are cutting is .50" 4140 and has about 4.1" of cutting length. The first part we cut took about 3 hours. That would come out to about .022 IPM. We do not have a tight surface finish to hold, just a profile tolerance of .0015 in certain sections of the cut. Below is the program that we used to cut the profile. What exactly controls the feed during the program? The E101? What kind of IPM can you run of .50 steel? Does anyone have any charts that might help me? Thanks for any help that you might be able to give.

Hi ...

What you have to do is to take look in the book --- technology book that came with the machine for the cut technology ... and used proper E-pack (E101 is just reference ) for the type of material you use for the thickness ( .5" in your case ) , wire Dia .... and the most important is to have the upper head closer to the part ... also run full open the water flow gages. This type of machine cuts actually fast .... and if I remember has only 2 or 3 surfaces finish.

I hope this helps .

I don't have as much experience as some of these guys.... but on a Mitsubishi, I don't think there's a feed rate (command) like you might be used to. It takes parameters from the e-pack and senses the cut through power-flushing. I was getting my feet wet, the boys at Mitsubishi are really kuhl and might give you some advise.

Wires are kuhl once you get operating. X-periment with wire thicknesses too. :rambo:

I'm wondering, if you dont give it an e-pack, if it defaults to the previous setting. Also in the parameters you might be able to override the e-pack while its running. But you have to look in the Manuel for the abreviations.. the only time I wanted to slow the machine down is for wire contact or breakage, I sort of played around with flushing pressure...
