Curve 5-axis lead/lag tilt collision control

Recommended Posts

so something that comes up all the time in milling, trimming, welding, laser cutting, etc. is the need to tilt the tool in the lead/lag or push/pull path direction based on how close to a surface/solid the tool gets. Right now in Collision Control you can set a check surface, and stock to leave but it just trims the path.

You can do this in advanced multiaxis paths, but it would be fantastic to have in curve5-axis because it's a more simple path (and costs less). that is to say I'm not expecting to see that functionality, but I wondered how hard it would be for me to build it myself. at this point I haven't done any manipulation of points/vectors in space, but I can program in C, and .NET just fine.. have made a couple net hooks, and have a good grasp of vector programming.

The part I'm missing is if I have any access to the toolpath.

I know I can change values of toolpaths, I can change change:

// CM5dlg parameters

07656 int OutputFormat; ///< Output format

07657 int PatternType; ///< Pattern Type

07658 int ToolAxis;

and I *should* be able to look at the check surfaces when selected for Collision Control

now I don't think that's per-point though. What I need to do is change the tool axis on individual points based on a collision distance or angle (or combination of both)

basically want to know if it's possible before I even embark on this mad journey
