HX500i Servo Whine?

We've got a Kitamura HX500i that we've had for only a few months, and it often emits a high pitched whine while running. It's loud enough to give me a headache through a closed door while I'm trying to program. The machine seems to be functioning properly in all other aspects. Is this an indication that we need some servo tuning? If we let it go is a servo going to burn out prematurely?

Matt, doesn't that machine have dual servos on X, Y, and Z? You've probably got a pair of them that are wrestling each other. Might wanna get a tech in there to check it out.

Servos on any machine shouldn't make a noise, it can put undue stress on them and the amp. I'd get someone in there to balance them.

Voices in the head heh! If it is the servo's, yes get them looked at. It will be one fighting the other and won't be any good long term.

If you can hear it, it's probably there.

 

One time we had an encoder that the set screw had loosened up on, squealed big time till we found it and the amp was balanced. It was a mystery for a while.

Yeah, thei dual servos are fighting each other. You definitely want to get a tech in there.

Indeed. There is another guy in the shop that can hear it, and we determined it's not the spindle. It's coming from either the X or Y dual servos, so yeah, we're going to have it looked at.
