Looks like a very good machine. Has anyone here worked on one?

I have had real limited exposure to one while I was in Charlotte at Okuma for some training. They are really solid from what I have heard. I have some good training docs for one with an OSP control, not much for the Fanuc version though.

So there is really nothing negative that comes to mind in that machine? It is a different animal in a way that it's a vertical/horizontal and a 5 axis to boot...

Yeah, the one thing that is kind of weird getting your head wrapped around is the axis layout. To me it seems like it should be considered a horizontal machine with a B axis table and an A axis head. Instead it is a vertical with the C table and A axis head. Personally I would rather have the OSP control but the 31i is good control. I know the machine should have dynamic work offset, TCP, and inverse but I'm not sure if they have the newer Fanuc "Smooth TCP" option yet. I think it should be upgrade-able though. If you do a lot of simultanious 5AX the smooth TCP is pretty awesome.

If TCP is a "Tool center point control for 5 axis machining" then it is standard on this machine together with nano smoothing, but "smooth TCP"?, I'm not sure.

And you're right, I'm looking at this as a horizontal as well, lol.

The axis configuration has been updated to match the 1000VH which is considered to be part of the double coloum family and hence is a vertical machine. I have never seen one of these machines with a FANUC controller so I can't help much with the spec. The machine itself is very solid.
