Hi

Need some help on a project here at work. We are roughing up some large 304 ss rollers ( 16" OD x 60" Length) by sending them out to be blasted. The results are inconsistent, at best. Does anyone here have any suggestions on a tool or process we can use here in house, to achieve the same result, while holding a decent tolerance on the OD? One of the guys here suggested knurling.... ?

Thanks in advance,

John

Is it a solid piece or tubing ? Careful on a shotpeening a thinwall tube that big if your trying to hold a tolerance. Also induces compression or work hardening on the surface and leaves you less surface contact area. Don't know if that's an issue....

Years ago we used to make and rework printing press rollers and it didn't work so good on those because surface contact is needed. Ended up flash chroming and regrinding $$$$$

There is something called laser peening that's done by robot and computers, but I think it's more for stress releiving and surface hardening.....
