  1. Just used this today. Glad these old forum posts are still availble!!
  2. Hi Need some help on a project here at work. We are roughing up some large 304 ss rollers ( 16" OD x 60" Length) by sending them out to be blasted. The results are inconsistent, at best. Does anyone here have any suggestions on a tool or process we can use here in house, to achieve the same result, while holding a decent tolerance on the OD? One of the guys here suggested knurling.... ? Thanks in advance, John
  3. Hi Anyone have any ideas on how to drill thru a plastic roller, 9.600 od, with a 2" dia. solid 304 SS shaft? We are currently using 12" long, 19/64 carbide tipped drills, but get maybe 2 holes max out of them. Feed 1., Speed 600 rpm, flood coolant, 2" R plane above part to blow off the chips etc. Thanks John Spangler
  4. Hi On the same topic, We're new to X5 (the company had us running MC8) and I'm trying to save my settings when I close the windows, so that they remain set when I close and re-open the program. Some of the operators here don't always double check things, and i'm betting this will become an issue, soon. Thanks John Spangler
  5. Hi I forgot how to set my preferences in MC9. Can someone refresh my memory, please. Things like default tool offsets, libraries, etc.etc. Thanks John
  6. Hi I just ordered a multi point insterted 8-NPT threadmill, figuring that HAD to work. We'll see. Thanks John
  7. Hi Trying (!!) to cut 3" - 8 NPT threads, 1" deep, 2 pockets, using MC9.2 and and OOOOOOOOOLD fadal with CNC 88 control, using format 1. I know it's been done, because I can see the parts here in the shop, but I cannot find an MC or NC file ANYWHERE. I programmed it myself, but it output so many lines of code (over 1,000 for 2 holes) that I couldn't load it into the control. What am I doing wrong, and better yet, how do I do it RIGHT??? Again, PVC, 3" - 8 NPT using a boring bar type single edge cutter (measuring 2.072). Both pockets are 1" deep. No rigid tapping, or any of that fancy stuff on this machine.... Thanks, John
  8. Awesome, that's exactly what I need. Thanks John
  9. Hi Is there a formula handy, or someway to figure out the taper size to rough mil a pocket for a 3" - 8 NPT internal thread? I need to threadmill the pocket on a Fadal (Older than dirt...) using a single boring bar type cutter. Apparently that's what the last guy here did, but I can't find any existing NC files for the part. Help... Thanks John Using... Mastercam 9 Fadal CNC 88 control
  10. Hi Thanks for all the input. I will definitely check on the oiling of the machine for rust, so far it seems to be in pretty good shape (for a 20 year old fadal, ha ha). As for chips, MAN, this stuff FILLS the machine. I have started filtering the coolant drains, and that helps. I have to dump about 2 Barrels of chips per every 10 16" dia. parts!! See Ya John PS-OLD ( I mean REALLY old!!!) fadals are a trip...
  11. Hi Just wondering if anyone had any idea what SFM I could use as a starting point for pvc and C-pvc?? My machinery handbook doesn't list ANY plastics. Machining it on an old Fadal, with coolant, and HSS tools, programming in MC9.1 Thanks John
  12. Ha Remembered my old password and login!! Hope my post count is back.... Does this one count?? See Ya
  13. Hi Just got my copy of X (Thanks CadCam), and have it installed, but with all the bugs being listed is there any benefit to switching over today, rather than waiting a little while before working with X?? What are the immediate benefits of X, to a novice user?? Thanks John
  14. Hi Nevermind, it showed up the next day!! It was slide, ala Jimmy Page - "In My Time of Dying", with a beer bottle. Nothing fancy, but it sounded cool with a lot of echo, and looked cool too. BTW, I DO NOT TAP and we still tune to 440!! Later John
  15. Hi Am I the only one here who has NOT received their copy of X yet? John
