Deep Pocket Tooling

Recommended Posts

Hey Guys, I have a part that has 6.8 deep pockets. Needless to say it'll be some long tooling. I want to rough out the majority of the material with my 2.00 Mits BXD, but I'm having trouble finding an appropriate extended arbor with a Ø.750 arbor diameter. I found a Kennenemtal 9.0 incher, but I only need 5 to 6. Where to look say you?

Call Western Tool and get a Techniks arbor. I have one that's 6 inch gage length (about 5.5 reach from the flange). I think the 2 inch BXD is about 2 inches long, so that should get you 6.8 deep. You can borrow it if you want. Machining performance is not optimal on a 40 taper machine with an 8 inch OAL tool. LOL

Uggh, and a VF2 no less. I'm not looking forward to it, but I want to be ready. Boss is still quoting on it, but we shall see. It's a hogged out box with fins/ribs and angled pockets all over the place and of course 2 deep cavities.

BXD/AXD(newer) is a cutter of choice for me in aluminium. One of the most free cutting tools out there. I use 1.5" dia up to 8.55 deep daily. Don't really need to slow it down much, just lighten up on the depths.

Love this 2incher

Will you deliver to Sunnyvale? :scooter:
