Both are the answer. Like he said,Too many factors to consider. Tangential eases into the cut. Make HSM more probable. Easier on the cutter and finishes as well. It can gouge just as easily.

Can you think of any other cutting application that uses perpendicular entry?

 

Take a cheese slicer. Is it easier to plunge into the block, then try to change directions and slice downward? No.

In high speed slicing applications like making potato chips, is it more efficient to have perpendicular entry? No.

 

Why would you want to do that in metal cutting? I think that the option to do perpendicular entry was made available for situations that made tangential entry unfeasible. Not to be a primary choice.

 

In all applications, things cut better... easier... with a nice, smooth, tangential entry.

I always use tangential entry unless there are factors beyond my control which prevent it.
