Spindle Speed and Feed rate for General Wood

Hi All,

We have Router 5 Axis made in Taiwan, with OSAI Controller, 10kW motor at spindle and max. Rpm = 24000.

For normal task, what the best Spindle Speed, Feed Rate and max Depth of Cut for cutting general wood?

Any suggestion Please.

Whatever you want to use. Wood is very forgiving biggest thing is are you using a router bit or an endmill? 24K and max feedrate would be my starting place. Depth of cut really comes down to what you are doing. If 1/4 plywood no depth of cut if 10'x10'x10' block then 2x to 5x diameter of cutter are good rules of thumb. You smell smoke going to fast with the RPM or to slow with the feed rate.

Another (arguably more scientific) approach would be to go to the manufacturer's website and look up chip load. You can calculate speeds and feeds using the formulas on the website. If you spin 24k rpm and go 100ipm, you will burn up router bits in no time.

Thanks for your responses, next thing to know, how about the vibration? is there the rule for it?

 i have a 3 axis industrial router and we cut two .75 thick sheets of plywood at once. we run the router spindle at 18,000 and feedrate of 450 inches per minute. router head is 18 hp. no vibration at all, however, our machine weighs 12,000 pounds. now your five axis machine might vibrate if u are cutting too deep and it also depends on how rigid your setup is. you do not want any vibration as the cut will not be the right depth and smoothness.
