Lifts in Toolpaths

Can someone explain what causes these little lifts in toolpaths sometimes?

Typically when I see this, it is bad surface edge quality. When the toolpath is having a problem with the "smooth" option trying to create a linking move between the end of the last pass, and the start of the next pass, the toolpath will make gap transition change to "broken".

 

Are you using Check Surfaces with this toolpath by chance?

What is your filter tolerance set at?

I am not using check surfaces. And my tolerance is set to .0005".

 

I changed the gap to follow surfaces and it does fine. But I always like the smooth setting to add a small tangential overlap. And this sometimes happens. I kinda figured it was just seeing something at the surfaces edge it doesn't like.
