Our Familys PC has all this going on

in the background or Alt ,ctrl,delete.

 

Aol,Explorer,Zonealarm,Navapw32,Ravapp,gmt,

qttask,winrun32,munwow,Realplayer,csusm32

aoltray,cmesys,rundll32,atitasl,stimon

aticwd32,nprotect,csinject,hotkey,showmode,

aolwbspd,hp2tsb03and warner

 

Jeeze o flip...

How do Decide what I really need and do not need?

a few of them are obvious that I need them, but

how do I get the clutter off the "Starting line up" ?

About half are not in the "Start programs "

I would say about 20% of the software out there asks first before taking over your pc.

I would unistall aol to start with. There was a post awhile back bout a software called adaware that quarantines data miners that you might look up also

Lavasoft company is who makes that nice ad-cleaning software. I also have something called "Start-up Cop", that lets you configure what your system automatically runs on startup. Can't remember where I got it though. Works good.

If they're not in your Start Up group in the Start menu, have a look in the Registry at:

also you can do a search with google for more info on each backgroud program running. This should tell you what they are and if you want them running on your PC.

What rots is that alot of that crap comes installed on a new pc. I Used reinstall windows NT first thing (with winnt disk ,not the manufacturers disk.)

Use to be, Systray and Explorer are the only ones you need for your PC to run.

Let me in to turn them off.

I cannot uninstall or delete them

because "Windows is using them"

including the two spyware.exe's

If you start up in safe mode without network supprot you can (sometimes) delete those files.

 

Some files you delete, it lets you, and then they pop back up.

I made this workaround to disable those proggies that do install a shortcut into your Start Up folder.

 

Create a folder called Stand By that is in the same path as the Start Up folder.

 

MOVE all the unwanted shortcuts from Start Up to Stand By.

 

The beauty of this is that the alpabetical sorting of folder names by the OS forces Stand By and Start Up to follow each other in the Directory tree.

This only works for those files called in by the Start Up, not anything called in the registry.
