Anyway back to the question, everything earthly (RS-232 included) is finite (meaning it has a limit), now, where that limit lies will depend on several factors. Quality of cable, quality of connectors, quality of connection, proper installation, Baud Rate, no RFI (Radio Frequency Interference), and other things play a part in what you can actually acieive. But for the most part 100 ft is within the acceptable range depending on baud rate. If memory serves, that kind of a range you're probably looking at aroung 4800 I believe unless you're shielded with no RFI and using Gold COnnectors straight through no breaks then you shoudl be asble to get it up to at least 9600 if not higher..
