Construction planes

Hi, I've got a quick question about changing my construction plane onto an entity. It gives you the option to pick a flat entity, 2 lines, or 3 points. Picking the flat entity works, but how do you pick the two lines, or the 3 points? Now I know it sounds self explanatory, but when i go to pick on either the lines or points (I've also trie d putting mask on) it just tells me that the entity isn't flat. Any suggestion's?

I know that when picking the 2 lines you have to pick the X axis first then the remaining line is Y.

Have you made sure the two lines are on the same plane to begin with?

Before you pick the two lines is there a command or a function that you can choose to allow you to pick these lines, or do you just have to try and pick them and hopefully it works?

Hi Coxy, I'm not Rookie but no there's nothing you need to do before clicking the lines. But as he mentionned, select your X first to get the better result. One more thing would be that your X line should be trimmed where you Y line starts. Maybe not too clear for the last segment but I'm sure you'll get it.

From the menu hit Cplane then Entity then select the 2 lines. X being chosen first.

I , for one, construct two intersecting lines with the X line and Y line both pointing positive respectively in the direction I want my plane.

Alt-F9 shows gnomons for axes.

I've found it helps if the lines intersect at a single endpoint.

actually it doesn't matter which lines you pick first. you can change their orientation with the next command.

that depends....the next command doesn't always give you the orientation you are looking for and will sometimes throw some pretty wacky orientations in the mix.
