TAPERED PACKET

Hello all.I have tapered packet (1  deg  taper ***) to machining .The packet  21.6  * 13  and 8 inch deep .The costumer wont to get 32 finish on surface .What scalop or step over I should set up for get this finish???

My plan was use  5 inch  cuter  .25 round insert cuter , and set up this on my HMC .What tool would be better and fester ???

I'd use as a big a ball as can be used....

 

1/2" x  8 inches deep......that's a lot of tool hang out

yes .First I thought  5 inch (**biger then my spindle )  but the time   ...... 600 sfm  is only  over 600 rpm

Thinking on it further....a big ol' bullnose endmill might be a better wall to go at this than a ball mill

I give up.Big cutter low rpm and feed .The packet dimension is  +/- .002  and  32 finish .NO quote !!!

I run similar pockets with an Iscar 2.5in inserted cutter with 12mm buttons.  You can definitely get the finish.  Depending on the material and shape I run it any where from 70ipm to 140ipm.  Send me a message if you want to talk more about it.
