Has anyone else noticed this? I made 3D HST rest rought operation using .stl saved in verify. I have many of these same kind of rest rough operation in this file and when I save the .mcx file some of the operations loose the .stl file. I have to go pick up the .stl again and regenerate the operation. This has happened to me several times last few days.

It might be the acceleration/ deceleration value set too high. Our lathe is the other way round, shaking the whole machine when in thread cycle.

I might suggest this enhancement. A config setting with several options:
Update Mdef on file open
1. Always
2. Ask
3. Never
Yes, this is just how it should work.

Here is what we talked about the same thing few months ago link
-
Topic starter talks about already created file with machine definition and toolpaths in it. Mastercam saves the machine definition in the MCX- file and doesnt update it to the latest version of that machine definition when you open it later. This is the most frustrating "feature" in Mastercam that I know and I´m definately agree with Newbeee, we should have the option to automatically load the current MD when opening older file.

I had to uninstall and re-install cause I f'd up my config file (doh!...totally my fault cause I didn't pay attention to something in the transition guide).
Just delete the messed up config file and Mastercam creates new default config for you automatically.

Crazy, believe it this is not anything new, it has been the same from the beginning when they introduced WCS, (at least from V9), if you use WCS and do complicated 3D surfacing, you will notice it instantly. I have spoken about this with Mastercam dealer in 2007 and they were aware of this and said it is going to be fixed. If CNC software isnt looking at this forum, where there is the most dedicated users they have who adress problems in the software, then they are missing a big opportunity to make their product better.

Turbo verify doesnt work in true solid mode if you use WCS and the WCS plane is different that the original top plane.

It was three years ago when I asked about this and the answer was "its in the works" so Im sure it will be mind blowing when we finally get it.

If I try to use that merged stl on say, another op, there would be no way to select it from inside of the current file is that correct?
Yes, you cannot select it inside the MCX file for example in verify. I just tested it today and got the STL mesh on a level and visible but there is very little use for it. I just continue to save the STL in the same folder as the part file, where it is easy to find and usable.

Gcode, I think he means you can combine the STL and MCX file. When you open the STL file, you choose to bring it meshed and then place it to a different level. this is how I figured it but cant try it right now.

It seems X5 is not released this week so to pass time I ask an question, can I turbo verify when using WCS in X5?
-
I have the same problem with indexable drill, how do I slow down the rpm´s right before the drill goes thru the part? I want to know this because the center bit from the hole hits the lathe window and shatters it.

quote:Are you using the same tool in 2 consecutive OPs?Can you share an example?
That tool is only used once and its the last operation. I sent the file to cq and got an answer that it works in X5.
JParis, I can send it to you later if you like to see it.

Yes the stock is defined correctly but the inside tool still rapids thru the part when exiting.

I would like to hear someone from CNC- software explain why there is no more free bug fix releases in Mastercam. Right now we are forced to be on maintenance to get the existing bugs fixed. It just makes me wonder why would they do any more "bug less" software when they can sell the new release by saying "this or that bug will be fixed in next release". Right now there are bugs in, for example, Lathe that make the tool rapid thru the part but the only way to get them fixed is to buy the new release.

click OK and move on

You can adjust the accuracy vs speed in AICC. If it is set in the control you should be able to adjust it by putting R1-10 at the end of the starting code. For example G05 Q1 R2. (1 is the fastest and 10 is the most accurate)

quote:Verify saved me so many times and most times it only takes seconds. The problem many people have is that they dont set it up right with stock setup and using wcs instead of tons of levels. When you can select all toolpaths and verify and see a complete part instead of only one operation at a time thats soooo nice. its amazing how many people still use wireframe 2d geometry that they draw themselves and they dont bother with the wcs or stock setup. all their tools are not defined right for backplot and verify. They just post and crash and then try to figure it out. So insane
Insane is that we still cant turbo verify when using WCS.

In configuration, you can select Mastercam to do this automatically every time you open a file.

I have seen this same thing many many times. Just one of the many bugs stock flip has.

quote:Hopefully the optirough will have a routine in it at the end of the toolpath it will go back and do step reductions on angled walls so you don't have huge scallops from the large axial stepdowns capable with this toolpath. Anyone care to comment, beta testers? Surfcam does this with the 3d version of tru-mill.
Whats new in Mastercam X5 According to this, it will

quote:Yeah, but you aren't going to like it. Move them all to a different folder. Now when you pull up a job it is going to ask you to find it.
But isnt Mastercam saving a copy of the MD in every mcx file that I save? Why else would I be getting an older version of an MD even though that MD with those configurations doesnt exist anymore because it has been overwrite with a new one.
-
Is there a way to get mastercam automatically load the newest version of an machine definition? I make changes to my mmd`s and lmd`s frequently and when I open an .mcx file that was saved before those MD changes, I get the older version of it. Its rediculous that now I have to go to operation manager-> files and replace the MD manually even though it points to the right file!

On the advanced settings page choose the, Only between surfaces (solid faces). Depending on the part shape and your cutting tool, it is usually better to use check surfaces than containment boundary or you might not need neither.
