  1. Alright, so I'm definitely getting somewhere , it works just the way I want it too now , but , it only works for the first tool. Now for the rest of the tools it goes back to giving me line segments. Is there some line I can change in the mpmaster post? This is really progressing greatly....I really like the mpmaster post. Hopefully this little problem can be fixed. Thanks for al your help so far. Nick
  2. Thanks but even when the c-plane is on 3D I still get the error of entities must lie on the same plane. I am using MC8.1 would this make a difference?
  3. Hi What I am trying to do is create a fillet between a 4"dia. arc that is on the side plane and a line that is perpendicular(?SP?) to it on the top plane. Anybody know how to do this? I have tried to create the the pockets flat then rolling it but I them have troubles creating the toolpaths. Also I may have to edit the sizes a bit so it would be better if I could draw it myself. Thanks for any input
  4. Okay, so now that I've looked through a dry run of the program on the machine, I'm going to have to change up a comment I made on my orignal problem. The different A. movements (segments) are not fine, the change in Feed/min to deg/min is fine. Is there anyway for the post to follow the contour smoothly, with out the linear segment movements? Your help is so appreciated!!
  5. Oh I see that it inverses the time feed mode, with G94, and G93. Thanks.
  6. Hi, I hope i can explain this good enough. I have to cut out a rectangular filleted corner contour. And it has to be rotated about the y-axis. So in my matercam parameters, I put on the, rotary axis, axis substitution, substitute y axis, and my rotary diameter is 4.0in. I have it set to feed at 40in/min. Backplot is fine, it does exactly what i want. When i post it with Mpfan the first line of movement it has the 40in/min., but then theres a whole bunch of lines of small A. movements, which give me a different feed for everyline. The feed seems to accelerate from 664.in/min to 999.in/min. The different A. movements are fine, but the crazy high feed acceleration, i don't need, and know how to get rid of. I've tried looking at the post using 'Fastmode', but whatever I try to change in the post, doesn't work. Please, is there anyone that can help!
  7. I use a 4" tall tool setter for setting the tool length offsets on our mill. To set the WCO Z height I measure the height of the fixture form the table then subtract the 4" from it (this value is entered into the machines control). This has always worked well for me.
  8. Thanks Michael! Being able to see which part of the post did what was a lot of help. I have re-posted and and the problem is gone. I have yet to try it on the machine but so far it looks good! Thanks a bunch.
  9. Hi all I am using the mpfan post with my HAAS VF3 mill. IT works well for almost all of my needs, except there are just a little thing I would like to change. After a toolchange the post ouputs a Z move before the tool length offset call. I would like to delete this. It is a pain to do it manualy. Here is what is posted T4 M6 G0 G90 G54 X9.3725 Y-1.7225 Z1.75 A0. S15000 M3 G43 H4 Z1.75 M8 T1 Thanks I am still learning how posts work.
  10. Thanks for the help guys I wanted to use the mpsuprep post instead of another is because it is my only post that requires me to do any editing. I am starting ti learn more about posts but at the moment they are kind of a mystery to me. So there is no such thing as a perfect post for my machine?
  11. Hi I have MC8.1.1, HAAS VF3,and and am using the mpsubrep post. What I have been trying to do is make a program to run two diferent parts at the same time. I can not figure out how to get this post to make multiple work offsets. I use to use the mpfan post and had no problens . How do I get it to work? Anny help would be apreciated. Thanks
  12. Thanks for the input guys. I think I'll trust you on this one steve. Ya sound like you know what you are talking about. I was worried about the chips but I thought I could work around it. Oh well. I'm just a rookie thinking of new ways of doing things around here. "Why walk when you can drive!" Thanks for all your info
  13. I am using socket head cap screws. I thought if the actual driver had a strong magnet in the end of it, or some sort of retaining device that allowed it to just be pulled out once the screw was installed. I also thought that the screws could be placed into a tapped block where the machine would know where to find them. [ 04-10-2002, 01:12 PM: Message edited by: Eric Sman ]
  14. Instead of using a tapping cycle maybe a G86 BORE AND STOP CANNED CYCLE would be better. Thanks for the reply!
  15. I have a dream. I was wondering if anybody ever used the CNC mill to install screws. What I am doing is clamping multiple parts, drilling, then the machine stops and waits for me to install some 1/4-20 screws. I may just be lazy but I thought the machine could do this much faster! I thought a tool like a tapping head that has a floating head and an adjustable torque setting might work? Also some kind of retaining device for the screws like a magnet would also be important. I have a HAAS VF3 with rigid tapping. Any ideas? [ 04-10-2002, 11:55 AM: Message edited by: Eric Sman ]
  16. Gald I could help. I see what you mean about the lines touching. This seams to be a real problem on the top and sides. I tried to figure that out but I could not get a gap between them. Sorry
  17. Hi all First off I have a HAAS VF3 with rigid tapping, Mastercam version 8.1.1 and use MPFAN Post. I have been peck tapping in Mactercam by, creating multiple operations and just varying the depth of cuts until I get to the depth I want. This posts fine but it can take some time to create new mc8 files doing it this way. I am sure it is posible to do in one operation by creating a custom cycle but I do not know how this is done. Any help would be apreciated. Thanks
  18. Hello 1 Create 2 Drafting 3 Globals 4 Demension Text 4 Lower left corner it says TEXT BOX LINES: turn them all on and that should do it for you.
  19. The machine that I have is only a little over a year old and it is capable of high speed machining (but I have not yet realy needed it). I am going to be milling a material called NC Proofboard (it is like a dense styrofoam) so my feeds are going to be high, say about 400ipm. When I run a part the tool does not go as fast as the feed says. Only on the long straits, which there are not many on my surface. My cutter only wants to drag race not take corners!
  20. Thanks for your info. I am useing a HAAS VF3. I think that you may be right about the problem being with my control. I have got the pgm. using arks and it is quite a bit better but the machine still is a little jerky like the control can not keep up with the feed. I am machining nc proofboard so the faster I can feed the better. Thanks again.
  21. Hi all . I have mc 8.1 level 2 and I am machining a single surface. When I post the file all the movements are little straight lines. It looks Ok when I run the part but I would like to find a way to speed it up. Is there a way to get it to post with arks? Thanks for your help.
  22. I took a look at the rhino pgm. it seems perfect, if I can figure out how to use it. The drape surface feature looks like it would work well, I only have a bunch of contours on diferent z planes, and I can not figure out how to put a mesh over it so I can drape a surface. Any help here would be greatly apreciated.
  23. Thank you for the reply. I curently have MC 8.1 level 2. I have been messing around and discovered that if the mountains are drawn form a side view in layers on the Y axis, that it is possible to loft the contours to join them together. Then I can create toolpaths for the surface, but this seems like a lot of work! I have a file with the mountains split up in the Z axis (a regular topographical map view) and it would be nice if I could find a way ot use it. I need a surface that is like laying a blanket over the map (If it is posible. Which I think may not be with the level I have?) Thank You.
  24. I am stuck. I have been trying to figure out how to surface a topographical map for milling. I do not have solids. I have tried to use loft surface, but I have had no luck. Any ideas would be apreciated. Thanks!
