  1. I would think you would be greatly limiting your hiring pool with a policy like that.
  2. Skip the short drill the long one will follow the hole anyway. You might want to try increasing your pecks as much as possible (ideally none at all) You can also rounding the corners of the drill would help with the life span and finish.
  3. But wouldn't the door override be turned back on as well during a set up then? Sure they could add it to the program after the set up but why not just remember to turn the parameter back after the set up is done.
  4. So this is a post issue and not just the way the machines work? I'll have to give some manual programming a try and see if I get the same problems. Thanks
  5. Thanks for the input..our machine do not have a Y axis, but machines that do have a Y axis can use cutter comp with no problems? Guess the boss should have spent the bucks on a good machine. I'm just surprised that it has to be done this way. I would have thought the machine would have been "smart" enough to figure out the cutter comp.
  6. I have only been able to get it to work if the toolpath starts and ends at C0. If not the tool end up making some really oddball moves in all axis.
  7. Hello all I have been programming and setting up our HAAS mills for quite some time and now have started to get into some programming for our Lathes with live tooling (we have 2 Pumas and a Mori). I have done some searching for my problems that I have been having with using cutter comp. As far as I can tell from my programming so far and what I have read is you can not use cutter compensation when milling with the C axis using G117. With G112 the only way to get it to work is to draw in the lead in and out so the cutter starts and stops at C0? I find this VERY STRANGE?!?! Is this correct? Are all multi-axis lathes like this? This is not a big deal for simple parts but when things get more complex and tolerances get tighter I can see this being a huge pain in the a$$. It just does not seem right to me that this is just the way it is and if I want to change the size I have to re-post the job. Any explanation to why this is or advice in this subject would be greatly appreciated. Eric p.s Still using MC9.1
  8. Chris I think it would be a little more safe to rewire the switch so at least you could have the door lock if you want. Instaed of just removing the lock all together. But then again I DO NOT RECOMMEND YOU OR ANYONE HAMPER THE PERFORMANCE OF THE SAFETY DEVICES ON ANY EQUIPMENT.
  9. Not sure about the mori but I "fixed" the door switch on our puma lathe by opening up the switch and rewiring it. Now it can be locked if needed but when switched to unlock it will run with the door open. Now scroll up and read James's DISCLAIMER agian.
  10. Here on the West coast is is about the same (not including benefits) but it seems to be rising rather quickly
  11. Thanks, that did the trick. It's looking good now. Thank you for your help that has been bugging me for WAY too long.
  12. oh ya I do have another related problem is there away to get it to post the pound symbols without spaces between them? The controler does not like it. ie ( # # # # ) I need (####)
  13. Tim I tried your method but it didn't work. I did leave out the "'S because I thought that it would output "35" instead. the pound signs out putted would not match the coresponding number in the drill perameter 1 this is what I would get 1 = ######## 2 = ###### 3 = ######### 4 = ##### 5 = ###### I did check to be sure I had then properly in the table? BUT now that I am refreshed after the weeked I see what you were doing Paul. I gave it a try and it WORKED!...sorry I didn't catch on earlier. I have a long way to go yet learning post editing but I an string to catch on. With a lot or trial and error and all your guy's help too. THANKS!
  14. Hi just got back to work. I'll give it a try Tim and see how it works and report back. Thanks
  15. Thanks for the link Roger. The memorization is not going so well
  16. Hi Sorry I'm off work today...but I had to stop buy to check up. I'm not sure if I explained what I was trying to do properly. What I need is to have the number of #'s to change in relation to the number I put in drl_prm1....if this is possible?
  17. Thanks for the response. I have tried that way as well and still nothing. I think I am putting the formula in the wrong place maybe? I have it here: if drillcyc = 8 #Serial Number Engraving if drl_prm = 1, 035 [ "(SERIAL NUMBER ENGRAVING)",e pdrlcommonb pcan1, pbld, n, *sgc9, "P1", pxout, pyout, pfzout, *peck1, *peck2, *feed, "(", *drl_prm1, ")",e pcom_movea ]
  18. opps I had them looking like this: if drl_prm1 = 1, "#",
  19. Hi all I have been spending the last few day sifting through the old topics about making a custom drill cycle for engraving. I have almost got it to output the way I need it too but I still have a couple of kinks to work out. I am running a HAAS and in the G47 line there needs to be a (####) to specify a 4 digit serial number. I can get the custom drill parameter to out put the number 4 okay but looks like I ran into a wall making it change the 4 into #### I was thinking I could do something like: if drl_prm1 = 1, # if drl_prm1 = 2, ## if drl_prm1 = 3, ### if drl_prm1 = 4, #### etc. I have tried it a few different ways and nothing had worked...yet I am new at editing posts in this detail but so far I have learnt a lot (from trial and error ) any help or advice would be greatly appreciated. Eric
  20. That's what I wanted! Should help to persuade (SP?hehe) people to save programs appropriately!
  21. Solid Works compatible optional. need at least Drawings.
  22. Hello all We have been having troubles with our file management system...or should I say lack there of. What I am hoping to find is a software program that will store all the files related to each part in one location and to be accessible to multiple workstations. It needs to be compatible with Mastercam, Solid Works, NC files, maybe photo's, etc. (I'm not asking too much now am I? ). In doing some online research I have found a couple of candidates that "might" fit the bill. CAMAIX Project Manager, and Predator TRAVELER. Has anyone used these products? Anyfeed back or suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks!
  23. Why not just use G47 with P1? Does your control not have it?
  24. Simple fix? Xform, Mirror Then the part should match again
