  6. Thanks for the replies, Well it looks like they are going to go ahead and try out a seat of UG. Well see what happens
  7. William, Do you do alot of 5axis programming using MC. What kind of 5axis machine are you programming. LEO [ 05-30-2002, 07:18 PM: Message edited by: Leocam ]
  8. Our company has come under new management and currently we are using Mastercam. He wants to go with Unigraphics. Now mind you we are running some 5-axis machines and money is not the biggest of issues here. But Honestly if you guys could choose and know mastercam or unigraphics would you rather know UG and operate that over Mastercam. Or would you rather have been a mastercam user. Please reply.
  9. Yeah things have been really slow, I have no clue were people have all this money to go out and buy new homes. Cause people in California are buying homes like crazy. The whole economy sucks and everything is slow right now, not just the aerospace/defense industries. They keep saying it'll pick-up "WHEN DAMN IT" Hey "SCOTTIE" Let go get some Chineese food man I'm Hungry.
  10. I'd like to go with you to lunch sometime today, if you have the time. I'm not sure about the situation yet. Thanks for lunch. P.S. I still think it's unfair that you got an extra napkin. Leo [ 02-11-2002, 04:28 PM: Message edited by: Leocam ]
  11. By the way I agree lapping may be the only way to aheive such a callout, the question is, will they certify to it. Your best bet was to go to someone like Starrett, which you did and order a Jo Block, but you said they would not make it out of invar. Maybe try a different place and see if they can custom make it for you. Leo
  12. Thanks, Trevor I will check that out. By the way can recomend a discussion site I could go to discuss more my type of issues. I understand this is a mastercam user site and while some questions are not mastercam related, mastercam is the purpose of this discussion group. I've never really been into discussing things online, for instance like on this forum, but I'm beginning to see how helpful it can be and I'd like to thank everyone who has taken the time and effort to answer my questions, you guys have been great. Sounds corny what I'm saying but I mean it. Leo [ 01-03-2002: Message edited by: Leocam ]
  13. Like Jim said such a call out would require an amazingly controlled enviorement to check it. Any change in temperature or even touching the part would cause the part to change. You would probably have to keep at room temperature for at least 12 hours and then handle it with extreme care. Maybe Jim's techinque might work but even the tolerance +/-.00008" is too much for .0001 metric and you need some pretty expensive equipement. Leo
  14. Elad, I appreciate the offer and I will definetly let you know when I'll be coming to Israel again. I have an aunt and a grandmother in Israel. They live in Ramat-Gan. My mom is from Ramat-Gan and my Dad from Givatayem. I also have some distant family that live in Jerusalem. I hear they own a big construction company and have lots of money but we do not keep in contact with them. (too bad) I've worked in my company for 5 years. Right now I pretty much manage the place and I'm begining to do some sales. I've worked here as a machinist (bridgeport) and a planner. I have done a little work on the CNC but not too much. Don't get mad at me guys but I'm not a programmer. I got on this site because I work with Scott Bond. And sometimes I like to talk you guys because I have some questions I think you may be able to help me with. You're answer's have been helpful and are appreciated. Can anyone recomend a website for me that I can go to and discuss more of the questions on my level. Like more sales and buisness related stuff for the machining industry. Elad, also if you have a name or know someone I could possibly contact at Elbit and could some work that would be cool. I know they own a company called EFW in Texas, they have a lot of machining work. We are a great company and have alot of quality approvals. Give me a call if you like, you can visit my company website at www.simonbros.com and get my number I work every from approx. 8am - 5pm, I think our clock runs 10 or 10 1/2 hours ealier than Israel time. Also did you serve in the army. Just curious if you picked up this trade from being in the army or did you learn in High school or after the army. And are there alot of machine shops in Israel. Thanks for replying Elad, Hope to continue to talk with you and hopefully one day we can meet up in Israel, maybe I will be going there before the end of the year for buisness. Respectfully, Yaniv Leo Babic USA/Israel Leo is my middle name. [ 01-02-2002: Message edited by: Leocam ]
  15. If thats the call out good luck, like you said some engineers just don't understand and need to take a few years of machining before drawing things that can't be made or make things more difficult then they need to be. I'm not sure what it's for, so I can't tell you if that call out is more headache then it needs to be. Anyways goodluck. Leo
  16. Elad I'm also Israeli, well actually my parents are I was born in the USA, My parents came here about 35 years ago. But I've been to Israel about 17 times. Last time I was there was a little over a year ago, about 1 week before the Palestinian uprising started. Hows the economy in Israel, manufacturing wise. I heard not to great, but some companies like Elbit system and Rafael are doing good, "I wish I could get some machining work from them". And also,Where in Israel do you work and for whom might I ask. My dad used to sell cutting tools. He owned a company called United Tool and Abrasives in Chatsworth, California, USA. He used to sell tools from Isaeli based companies, like Hanita and Iscar exclusively. Shalom, Leo Babic Manufacturing Manager Simon Brothers Precision Machining, Inc. Chatsworth, Ca 91311
  17. I think there is something wrong with that call out .0001 metric is .0000039". How would you even inspect that, even if the tools accuracy is +/-.0001 it would not be good enough. Even 1 tenth (.0001") would be hard to imagine. I would call the engineer and get that callout clarified. Leo
  18. JSF JSF JSF That's all I keep hearing that our industry (machining) will pick-up because of the JSF. But are you guys aware that the first delivery of the JSF Fighter is not going to be until approx. 2008 if not later and the first delivery is for approx. 8 planes. 8 planes give me a break, how many parts are in 8 planes. JSF program will not be in full production, meaning about 200 - 400 planes a year until about 2014 - 2020. The only thing JSF will do is provide about 5,000 - 10,000 engineering and other various job positions. Which is great. But as far as work for us guys I don't see it making any kind of difference, at least not until much later. Although I believe defense spending will increase. That may not mean much for most of us. The reason being is except for JSF and couple of other programs there really is not anything new. Meaning that increase in defense spending would just mean more purchasing of the old stuff and unless you already have contracts or have made any of those parts that have been around for the last 20- 40 years. It will not really affect you. All I hope for is that the commericial industry will rebound. Hopefully people start getting on planes again and Boeing figures out a way to beat out Airbus. James, I think your right. I've talked to some people at private jet manufacturing companies, Like GulfStream and according to them their production of planes has not really been affected by Sept. 11, as matter of fact they forecast an increase in production over next couple of years. All I can say is that while I think there will be an incease in defense spending, I don't see that affecting us to much. But I sincerely "hope" I'm wrong. I think this will be a very intersting year. Hopefully we will all be eating filetmignons and not "SPAM" (yuck). So I'm stumped about the comimg year, I'm just not sure and that's why I was looking for some of your opinions. If anyone has anything else to add please do. Remarks/insults/opinions are welcomed. Respectfully, Leo Babic
  19. What is your prediction for work in the coming year. Do you think it will slow or busy, etc.. And what industry do you think will be busiest, for instance aerospace, military, commerical, etc.. and why. Your replies would be appreciated. I think this could make for an intersting discussion. I will add my own input a little later. Leo Babic Manufacturing Manager Marketing Representitive (part-time) SBPMI tel. (818) 613-9980
  20. HAVE A HAPPY AND HEALTHY CHRISTMAS/HANNUKA AND A GREAT NEW YEAR. (FINALLY VACATION) HOPEFULLY NEXT YEAR ARE INDUSTRY GETS OUT OF THIS SLUMP, AND GET'S BACK TO AN UP TIME. WE'LL SEE IF THE INCREASE IN MILITARY SPENDING WILL HELP GET SOME WORK GOING. LEO
  21. Don't kill me please. I just wanted to have some fun because things were getting a little crazy here. Hope you found it funny and I'll buy lunch tomorrow. You're favorite Chineese (and I'll even get you an extra "napkin".-inside joke for us buddies) I shall now retire. Leo
