  1. Can anyone tell me if MCLathe can machine a profile thread form?

I will be using a 35 degree insert .0313 radius to cut a rope style thread that is approx a 1/2 radius thread.

The thread is used on a crane to hoist 1" round cable up and down.

    Please HELP!!! confused.gif

  2. Hello all,

I just got the lathe pkg and I can't figure out why it won't let me TURN a groove instead of GROOVE groove.

    Here's what I got,

I have to make a sheave that is about 57 deg included angle and a .289 radius in the bottom.

Now,is there no option to actually turn an od groove?

I'm no slouch when it comes to cnc lathes,I've been doing it for 15 years and I found the best and cleanest way to make pulley grooves is to use a vnmg nuetral tool and cut using the zig-zag method as the tool goes deeper.

But,I can't find any nuetral tools in the libraries supplied and no option to use one in MC lathe.

    Help me guys,

Am I losing my mind or can this not be done?

    Thanks.

  3. Jack,

are you talking from a cnc programmer's point ov view or are you an engineer?

and by toolmaker, do you mean the old geezers that think the bridgeport is the king of all machines?

if you are a cnc programmer then, YEAH! take 'em down!!!

Show them that it's not 1940 anymore.

  4. I have Win XP pro.

when i bring up the task manager and look at my cpu usage with a bunch of programs running, the percentage is pretty much 0%.

    BUT,

when i run Mastercam (v9 level 2 with solids),

the usage peaks at 100% and stays there!

i don't think this is normal, does anyone else have this problem?

what can i do to fix it?

it even does it when mcam is the only program running.

  5. I use an 1-1/2 dia. with 3040 inserts in mild steel burnout material and run it about 1700 rpm and approx 55 i.p.m. with .200 depth of cut and no coolant.

total slot depth is 3/4 deep and 8" long and i can get about 30-40 parts with the same index.
