if only .500 deep why not use 2D contour and step down .030-.050 leaving .125 on xy that way after you can finish side wall with 90 degree cutter

The classes put on by the resellers are great, small classes and helpful. Also this forum is a great place to learn some tips and tricks. Also the training tutorial books are helpfull. Get your employer to buy them if need be.

i would start with a shorter drill maybe 3-5x dia and then use the 10x dia length drill. DO NOT use peck drill they work better if it is a straight drill cycle. i agree with Hardmill use the recommended speeds and feeds if not comfortable with it phone your tool supplier and have the rep come in that way if you break it using their recommended s/f you can get another for no cost!

check the total tolerance filter ratio and make sure it is set. i found this to be a help before

glad to help.

just did it. use the .032 em forget the .062 em if you are worried about the cut amount you multi pass i set the remachine tolerance to 1% and use the remachine from previous tool diameter of .156

just got the new release of mastercam 3 yesterday,i had my mastercam rep install it. i see they have added a couple new tool paths and gave us engraving, plus1 for that! i am going to play around with it today as i dont have much work. i was wondering what you guys think of the FBM feature? does it save that much time and are the tool paths effective?

If you need to start off where the other left off change the top of stock to z-5.00 and retract set to z -4.875 make sure you set clearance to positve z height.still use peck cycle this should help you

i'll check the sites out, thanks. also where do your operators bill their time to when the mills are running i feel that it should be billed to the job what are your opinion?
-
I am in need of some opions. I currently have a operator running and setting up various cnc mills, I was wonder what everybody does for time sheets? I would like to know so I can get the pencil pushers of my a**. I use to put the time start and stop on the job it was cutting but now they want set up time, program time, cut time and clean time and down time to me it seem more time will be spent writing this out and watching the clock. Any suggestions would be great. We don't run production jobs so they are all 1 offs.

found them, seem to be an ETS style. Thanks for the suggestion.
