I encouter an unpredictable situation.
Example: By machining a deep 1/2" pocket. Using a 1/4 Endsmill. So I was using 5 depth of cut .100/depth
At the Define Tool: parameter
I setup
Rough xy step (%) : 0
Rough z step : .1
Finsih XY step : 0
Finish Z step : 0
At the Contour parameter: Depth cuts
When I click on the depth Cuts box
It Shown
max. rough step; .1
# finish cut: 0
Finish step : .0625
My qustions:
Where the 0.o625 came from I didn't ask for it?
Even I changed Rough z step to .2 at define tools. It still show .0625 at Finish step.
I didn't ask for Finish step .
Also, everytime when I reopen my file the info
at Define Tool is gone. I have to restep it.
How you guys do it?

THANK YOU FOLKS !!!
I got it
My mistake was I didn't window all the arc.
Thanks, my hat off to you.
-
Sorry guys.
I still cannot make it work. Even folloeing yours instructions.
Here how I done it and you mighht ponit out my mistake.
-Toolpath
-drill Toolpaths
-Drill point selection
-Mask on Arc
on screen shown: select arc to match
-Only
that the only button hightlighted to select ?
-color
blue
-Enter ( green check mark)
Nothing happened, back to square one ??
My End selection Green Ball is not hightlighted.
-
How to Mask on Arc on drill Point selection.
I try to select the same holes diameter with different depth by using
Drill Point Selection:
Mask on Arc.
I have tried using mask on dia of holes size or color.
But it shown
Error
No point selected
I have done that on V.9 without any problem. Somehow, I couldn’t make it work on MR2
Why ?? Even the Help section didn’t shown the step to do it. Please help.
-
I still having the "Watertight" problem since form V9. to X. "In-house" told me they can't fix that problem beacuse that part of software was from others company ??

Finally I could sleep soundly while the machine is making chips.
I would like to thank you guys from the bottom of my heart for the support while I am in deep *hit.
Espcially,MichealJ,Gramby.MayDay,htm01,Tim Simmermon,MarkBana, terry5357 and others for the good advices and support.
REPORT:
Material : A2
Depth : .150"
Lenght of slot is 1.00" but I have to mill 700 slots !!
Tool: Screw Slotting Saw HSS
Dia: 2.25" with 60 teeth
Thickness : .0625
Holder: Homemake with keyway to prevent Saw rotate
Using CLIMB Milling, one pass with full deep. Speed S102 Feed, F2.0
It cut the cycle time 60% Now it take 1 minute per slot. cost less then $1/per slot. If EDM that will cost $35.0/slot !!!
THANK YOU

O.k I have the holder ready. I am going to give it another shot. Run at S102 and F3.0. going to change to climb milling, G42. I am going to take 4 passes at 0.04"/cut
I will report the result to you all.
Thanks guys.

The customer allowed us to increase the thickness because the tools was breaking. I can not use endmill because the slots are on the side. I have to use t-shape cutter in a vertical mill.

Saw: Globus
2 1/4 x 0.064 5/8'/60
hss 5-745-160
a spring loaded holde with different washer sizes. kind of screw the washer againt the Saw.
Now I designed a holder and press in 3mm dia dowel pin on then key way as a stop against saw rotated.
I'm more concern about the FEED and SPEED.

Last week I post a message regarding feed and speed for a slitting saw. I have to stop the job because the Saw came out from the holder. Now I have to design a holder with key to fasten it properly.
Material : A2
Depth : .150"
Lenght of slot is 1.00" but I have to mill 700 slots !!
Tool: Screw Slotting Saw HSS
Dia: 2.25" with 60 teeth
Thickness : .0625
I could not get a Carbide tool because too expensive and also I wouldn't get it in 3 weeks. But, the job is running now
I was runnung RPM S100 and Feed F1.5
take .05"/cut to .150' deep. It sound heavy and the tools came out of the holder after milled 2 slots
WHAT IS THE CORRECT SPEED AND FEED ?
THANK YOU !!!

Don't I have to take 3 passes, .050"/cut to .150' depth ?
-
Which method is better for milling .035" width slot and .150" deep lenght of cut 1.00". 700 slots !!! Material A2.

Jack. We are loacted in Cambridege ,Onatrio. Our supplier is SOWA tools. This morning our purchasing agent called them. It sound like they don't have the Carbide saw in house. But, they will find one and give us the quote.
Those part are for Toyota plant.Appearancely, nobody wanted the job. It ended on my desk. My boss told me this job have been passed from shops to shops. By the time every shop take a cut and we ended up nothing.
-
EdM cost too much. Those slot are for ventalation purpose. Not critical. I have two parts to machine. Now the job is on hold. I might have to get a Carbide Slitting slot.
What will be the Feed and Speed if i found a Carbide tool ?
-
My tool is :
High Speed Steel, Screw Slotting Saw
60 teeth
Shall I try to run Speed :100 RPM Feed: F1.5
.05" deep per cut ?? Using G41 ??
-
I called In-House and they told me that no sure things as perfact timing. What you see is what you get from the setup sheet.
-
I am up against the wall again.BREAKING tools !!
Please give me some "brain" how to mill this part. Before my $SS hit the road. AGAIN !!
I have to mill .030 slot, .150" deep. Only 1" lenght but 400 slots per part.
Matl: A2
Slitting Saw size: 1/3" thickness. 2.25" Dia HSS
What is the Feed and Speed?
How deep per cut to get down to .150" deep ?
When the part done. Beer on me this time. All you can drink. :-) Thanks, I know I can count on you. You never let me down before. I wish you are my mother-in-law

From my backplot information. My cycle time never correct. It always less then what is from the cycle time details. Sometime 4 times less. I am using Feed Caulation from the tools.
How to set Mcamx up correctly and give me a closer reading ?
Contour Parameter: Depth Cut . Unpredictable ?.

Where in the Screen/config.?? That i can change the setting ??
This chook will prompt you to turn on or off the use of preceding
operation. This value will reset to "use the preceding operation"
when you exit Mastercam.
You may use this chook as the startup chook (see Screen/Config).
Input:
1-Yes, use preceeding operation of same type to set the defaults for a
new operation. If no similar operation is found, the parameters
from the default library will be used.
2-No, use only the parameters from the default library.
