  1. Mastercam X2 MR2. You have mail.
  2. Hey guys. I am struggling to get a descent surface finish with a ball e.m. The surface is one complete surface with nothing complex about it (kind of a sweeping twist shape). For a long time I have noticed that no matter what toolpath I use or whatever I adjust my tolerance and filter ratio to, there are always bumps on the surface. They show up in verify and on the actual part. We also use a seat of Work NC out on the shop floor and it never has this problem. Is there something I am missing in the settings? It seems like a good, smooth surface should always yield the same outcome on the physical part. Thanx in advance for any input guys!
  3. Trevor, I can't seem to find the file on the FTP. What directory is it in?
  4. Very cool! Thanks a ton Trevor!
  5. 4-axis surfacing The part is on the FTP now and it is titled 4-axis surfacing. It is in the MCX2 files.
  6. Thanks guys, I tried putting it on the FTP yesterday but I couldn't get it to work. I'll give it another go this morning. A couple of the problems I am facing with this auger is that it has a radius area rather than taper. I have done tapered ones in the past and tipped them like said John. This one will definately need surfacing. Another problem is that at the opposite end there is a square shoulder that I can't hit which keeps me from running off the part. In my opinion it is a 4-axis impellor type of part, at least in the way it will need to be machined. Thankys again for everything guys...I'll keep trying.
  7. Hey guys, I am in the process of programming an auger that has 2 flutes 180 deg. apart. At the base of the flutes is a radius and the space between the flutes is rather large requiring the area between to be surfaced. The only thing That sort of looks like what I want is a surface finish flowline on an unrolled surface with y-axis substitution. I am stil pretty stuck at making a workable piece though.....any help would be greatly appreciated! I'll also try and throw the part on the ftp in a little bit. Thanx guys
  8. The pocket is actually all roughed out already. All I am doing now is cutting finish pass on all the walls. I haven't ever used the toolpath editor....I supposed I'll try that. Thanx Matt.
  9. Hey guys, I have a rather large part that we need to get done asap. Right now my machinist is standing at the control turning the feedrate up on the walls of a pocket and down in the corners so it doesn't bark. Isn't there a way to do this in Mastercam so he doesn't have to stand there? I am using a surface finish contour and I can't find this option anywhere in the parameters. Thanks guys
  10. I was just going to post this same question. I used to have 3 sessions open at a time no problem until I installed MR1 and SP1. Ever since that I lose my machine parameters and selectabilty whenever I open even 2 at a time.....something is wrong here cuz I've done nothing to my machine but installed the upgrades and now it doesn't work.
  11. Rickster, that worked. Thanks! Yeah, I switched to Area Clearance and already had the containment set to inside. It cleaned it up a little but still ran outside. The offset did the job in the end. Thanks again guys!
  12. Rickster, That sounds like a possible solution. I'll give it a try, thanx
  13. Mark, one of my surfaces extends beyond the containment boundry so I can't do that. This is probably part of my problem. I was hoping it would actually contain the tool regardless of the surface, like in the old toolpaths. gcode, I tried that and it cleaned it up a little but still runs out at the ends (kind of where the surface extends).
  14. I've been trying to incorporate the high speed toolpaths into my jobs more often lately. However, I am having trouble with the core roughing. The tool will not obey my containment boundry. I have made sure it is a complete/closed chain and contain "inside" is checked with no offset distance. It is still going outside of the boundry though. I would really like to use this toolpath since it seems like there are a lot less wasted moves than surface rough pocket. Can anybody shed some light on the situation for me please? Thanks guys
  15. Morning everyone. I recently loaded SP1 on my machine and noticed a difference with the trim surface to plane function. The function works fine still, it's just that when a surfacing toolpath is tied to it, it recreates a new trimmed surface even when delete is selected. The new surface does not appear on the screen untill you select the geometry of the toolpath tied to it. The old way just turned the op dirty and required no more than a regen dirty ops click to fix. Now I have to go into geometry, re-select new surfaces and flowlines, and delete the re-created original surface. Is this an intentional change so that people don't delete toolpaths on accident or a glitch? Thanks guys
  16. If they are equally spaced you can do a transform translate copy.
  17. Eric, Thanks, I forgot to let you know on Monday. That was it and it works perfectly now!
  18. Cool, thanks. I'll have to try that out Monday....done for the week now.
  19. I can drag it into the toolbar but it won't be part of the dropdown under the create line icon. It basically adds the individual icon for that function.
  20. Yeah, I loaded my custom toolbar state from X2. How can I get that to show up? I seem to have tried everything I can think of but I know I'm just missing something simple here.
  21. After loading MR1 I noticed that my icon toolbar selection for the sketcher does not contain the new create line tangent through point feature. However, when I go to the dropdown create>line it does contain it. Anybody know what I have wrong here? Thanx
