We use a lot of igs files for surfacing and I see that message box a lot of the time. It always goes away though. Maybe try getting a different file type. It could be that it's not translating good.....maybe

In the file print box do you have a "scale image to" box with a percent aspect ratio next to it. If so enter in 800% and it should work. Or you can print at 100% and do a Xform scale of 800% on the drawing.

It sounds to me like you would want to use one of the Solid Boolean features. The icons next to the features should show you which one will give you what you want.
