  1. I ran into this same problem around V7? I believe that the ->convert->stl requires a solid b/c of the way the coding is done. What I have had to do is either define the part so there is no stock left over then manipulate using Main Menu->File->Converters->STL->Xform file. if you need moere than that you will have to a third-party application with an stl manipulator. If you have a simple part and some patience you can edit the stl file by hand. good luck.
  2. I've got a package of .005 drill just waiting to go through some 303SS. Now I just need the material.
  3. quote: We use "project 70" for free machining stainless steel. Try this link to have a look.Project 70+ I second that. I turn alot of PH and 400 series SS and this stuff makes a big difference. Especially when it's heat treated.
  4. there is always this KDE is looking pertty good - but I am partial to fluxbox.
  5. I have no windows @ home. I'm running slack 9 and mandrake 8. There are very few programs that I can't find linux replacements for. Here at work all of the servers are being switched to RH and SuSe. There is talk of changing the workatations to RH. We'll just have to wait and see.
  6. I added a .04w groove to the ID of 300 440C(63063 HRc)nuts. Also put the finishing touches on a system surgeons put up peoples nones to remove sinus tissue and bone. modified my cell phone headset for use in online gaming.
  7. Maybe if we ask webby REAL nice we could get one of them O/T lounges. 1973 here.
  8. Holy Crap some of those are big parts. Right now I am making a part .060" dia X .045"long with a .019R divot in the end.
  9. quote: We turn parts +/-.0002 all day long without doing this, but they say "...but those other machines are much smaller..." I can smell the steaming pile they are shoveling from here. Let me ask you this Chris. After he makes his rough pass "to a known size". is the finisher going to the same offset every time? If the offsets are varying more than +/-.0003 from each other I would have to say that there is a problem with their machine or process. I typically run parts with +.0002/-0.0 to +/- .0003 all day on my Mori SL150 and SL15's without adjusting for anything other than tool wear. And this is on 17-4PH ,416,and 440C all 40-60 Rc. Good luck
  10. Thanks alot James that's exactly what I needed. I knew there had to be a way to make the exectuable use a certain config. I can even keep the *.cfgs on our server so I can use my config from any of our machines by using Target: C:Mcam9Mill9.exe ServerDirDirpaul-lathe9.cfg If you're ever here in Dallas/Ft.Worth I need to buy you a beer! 11. We have v9sp1 running on win2k sp3 with 2 different users. Both of us are using the same *.cfg and *.exe for mill and lathe. When I log on everything is fine, but, when the other user logs on we have a few issues. -Neither mill or lathe will post succesfully regardless of *.pst or *.MC9 file. Each *.pst file gives different errors. -all file locations i.e. *.MC9, *.NC , tool libaries, are in completely different locations (defaults) then when I log on everything is fine again. What gives? And yes, this is a brand new installation on a brand new box. TIA for any ideas, suggestions, queries, or insults.
  12. biss03, In a word, yes. In more than one, not as much as it could. You would then be limited by cpu, and ram. It rould be similar to putting an F1 engine in a yugo.
  13. quote: m3 != 1337 5p34k n00b. r j00? Also, as word such as hacker could be: hax0r h4z0r |-|4><0|) |-|/-><[]|) In 1337 5p34k, it's also common to purposly mis-spell words such as "the" as "teh". W00t! OMG!!!!!!!!1 You're 1337 liek Jeff K.!!!!!! All your base are beling to us!!!!!!!!!!!!1
