  1. A component that I am getting ready for production uses 28 seperate tools and seventy or so operations and has been thanks to mastercam not to much trouble apart from when I revisit certain ops for modification of geometry or cut depths, mastercam recalculates my speeds and or feeds just so can have the painfull experience of watching a HSS tap engaging my cast iron part at 150 metres per minute suface speed instead of 10 metres per min as I had previously set.I mostly have my speeds and feeds set to material and use the percentage overide on the tool dialogue for tools that need adjustement from those values, I then when I make changes recalculte speed and feeds to lock in new values, and after that dont touch them unfortunatly mastercam does.Does anyone have a reliable proceedure as at the moment I dont feel comfortable without checking the detailed tool report after each operation change.Bottom line is when I have previously determined my speeds an feeds by whatever means and providing I dont change speed feed related data I should not have to keep one eye on mastercam ruining my good day by welding a f#!&ing tool to my $2000 plus part. Gary
  2. Check that your proceedure works on a simple part linked to an stl for stock? Do toolpaths run on your part model other than the restmill function? Your part looks like there are open faces, I see you have solids so have your part as a solid and select solid faces to run your paths on. Gary
  3. There may be an issue with your resolution, but be sure when you save your stl (I usually use data in the mastercam folder), that you select this file in your rest mill operation. There is an area where you either use previous tools or ops or link to an stl file you must select this file. This function does work and is reliable. Gary
  4. Another option is create as a drill with a point angle of say 179 deg.
  5. I have seen boxed cycle and wondered what it was, I will try it in morning no doubt it will work.I am glad I backed up my origional post.I spent 2hrs stuffing around with the post on Sat morning, should have posed the question first. Many thanks Gary
  6. My post (modified from the generic mastercam fanuc post for 2 axis lathe)outputed G32 for all except canned thread option which outputs G76.I wanted G92 format which I achieved by editing my post. G92 and G32 are both written into the post but I couldnt discover how to get the post to read the G92 area so I cut and pasted my G92 format stuff into the G32 area which worked but have now lost my G32 formatted code. Does anyone firstly understand what I am on about and secondly have a more text book solution. I wanted the change since G32 does not chamfer on exit whilst G92 does (via a parameter).I may want G32 again one day so best to resolve it now.
  7. Many thanks off to work now armed with knowledge for once Gary
  8. I am trying to machine a chamfer at the top of a hole 10mm x 10mm my cutter has a 4mm x 4mm cutting edge,so I want to do it in series of steps.I tried contour path and tapered walls using a taper cutter at 45deg at knock off I still had the problem of getting the cutter to start at the hole centre at each step. I am hopeing someone has a procedure so first up tommorow I can hit the ground running. Gary
  9. We have a program that includes a drill op then stock flip then the same drill op with same tool. With verbose checked the verify acts as if there is no drill op after the stock flip, yet when we uncheck verbose all is ok. We like the verbose funtion as a final check for tool no's speed, feed an coolant on/off, therefore this is annoying and not present in x3.Is it a known bug and has it occured for others? Gary
  10. Thankyou for reply Mr Crazy I have noticed you are a frequent contributer of good information on the forum for which I thankyou. My impression of the new active report set up sheet x4 is when you remove all the unessersary guff it generates, you end up with the previous LATHE.set sheet, which I have reverted back to using. Gary
  11. In lathe stock set up x4 I have od=75, length=1060, my stock start position is z-146. The set up sheet output is od 150 and stock length 150.Has anyone else had this problem and if so how was it resolved. Gary
  12. Thanks for reply I have it working now, although I can duplicate the problem by selecting the parrameters from the list top down and clicking apply then ok. As long as I select depth cuts last and click the green tick not apply it works fine. Gary
  13. I have a rectangle 180 x 110 mm on my top plane, dynamic path is selected top of stock is z0 depth is z-12. cut depths set at 1.5mm.It just goes to z-12 and performs a single pass (no depth cuts). I tried the same settings in x3 and got what I expected. Is there an issue in x4 re face milling? Gary
  14. We have a Dahlih mcv1020 maching centre and we want to change the interval that the slidway lube pump comes on, does anyone on this excellent site have the parameter number.
  15. Can you trim a toolpath in more than one plane, ie trim from say the right side with one geometry then from front with another on the same toolpath. I thought I had done it in the past, but cant seem to get it now.
  16. When I edit a material, to include a material percentage overide for HSS tools, then exit and return to confirm the edit I find it has not accepted my change (other things when I change them work).Anyone no why?
  17. John I have it now, I clicked in the top left of screen, on a flyout and it appeared. The model I was working on at the time in solidworks, was not complete when mastercam direct opened it, however, when I saved the solidworks file as a parasolid and opened it in mastercam it was perfect.I like the idea of itergration of solidworks and mastercam as I use both, but it seems we are at the early stages of developement or is there somthing else I can do other than click mastercam direct, which opens mastercam but from my first experience opened a less than perfect model. My os is 32 bit. many thanks Gary
  18. Jack I clicked the mastercam direct check box, I have mx3 mu1 and solidworks loaded on same machine. I dont see the mastercam direct icon? Thanks to everyone for there input. Gary
  19. I have x3 and solidworks latest version, both installed on same machine.I have activated the add-in within solidworks.I dont see anywhere where mastercam can be accessed from within solidworks.Do I need to download something or perhaps missread the blurb on the website?
  20. We have just discovered that on stock set up,the rectangular box with origin indicator, the origin of stock can be moved by simply clicking another part of the rectangle say corner or midpoint.Thats not to bad after only 2 years!
  21. Colin Thanks for quick response, at least now I have a plan of attack.I will chip away at it and see how I go. Gary
  22. I want to output to the post (modified fanuc generic 2 axis)the amount my stock petrudes from my jaws ie:my stock length - my grip length.I have tried to find code in the post that is affected by these settings with no luck. Gary
