  1. Not sure if you are trying to machine, draw or clear unused material from the board to make the traces. If you are trying to clear material try a pocket tool path. If you are trying to draw the traces you could create a line from center to center and then offset the line and trim. If the holes are in a pattern you could array or copy the original trace you drew and then trim.

  2. Waving from Carlisle,

Here is what it says in X4 MC help. I dont run any wire so I cant answer more clearly. Sounds like you are on the right path with the XY and UV chains.

    4-axis wirepaths

4-axis wirepaths have geometry in both the XY plane (the lower contour) and UV plane (the upper contour). Where a contour wirepath derives a second contour from the geometry, a 4-axis wirepath can have completely different geometry in the two planes, resulting in different wire movement in the XY and UV planes. The examples below show a 4-axis wirepath with different geometry in the XY and UV planes.

When 3D tracking is supported by the wire EDM machine and the control, you can use the 3D tracking option to enable Mastercam Wire to include variable Z depths for geometry that does not lie completely in a single plane. The 3D tracking check box is located in the Trimming area of the 4 Axis page.

  3. Did I miss any thing? Any options you would want. Will most likely adding a receiver and using a probe out of another machine. Seems that there is always something should have added.

  4. 1.

3flute aluminum cutting em 3"OAL sticking out 2.6" clamping on .400" in an ER40 collet in a mill/turn machine. Is it a good idea? I know the answer. Grenaded the em and collet.

    2.

MC a simple aluminum plate. same operator programed, post and ran it in machine. Drills two nice 1/4 holes about 18" away from where the part is, one in the Kurt vise movable jaw , one in a hard Snap Jaw. Didnt check the WCS and output a second offset and I guess was not watching because there should have been plenty to time to hit feed hold. At least this one offered to pay for the jaws.

I really need to start charging employees when they carelessly tear up tooling, would you?

Any stories of shops charging for tooling. I understand stuff happens but it has been happening far far to frequently.

Now I feel better, not really but the stories to follow will surely cheer me up.

Question have you ever charged/been charged for lack of common sense when tearing tooling up? My guys have gone thru more hard jaws, holders collets and tooling in the last 6 months than I have in the last 10 years. I guess I am just to nice.

  5. I have used one offset for multiple part locations and wrote them using the machine parameter values.

    O0769(69-63 BOX BOTTOM ALL MAIN)

    N1 (THREE BOSES TO RIGHT)

    N2 (PALLET 1)

    N3 #2505=-14.3724 (G58 X))

    N4 #2605=-19.6899 (G58 Y))

    N5 #2705=-37.3649 (G58 Z))

    N6 M98 P0063 (69-63 BOX BOTTOM ALL)

    N7

    N8 (PALLET 2)

    N9 #2505=-14.3711 (G58 X))

    N10 #2605=-19.6898 (G58 Y))

    N11 #2705=-37.3634 (G58 Z))

    N12 M98 P0063 (69-63 BOX BOTTOM ALL)

G58 values were updated before calling sub.

I have a spread sheet somewhere I created to generate the parameter Fanuc values. Might have put it the FTP? Let me know if you would like me to look for it.

  6. In the parameter page select the Toolpath Type -> Tool -> Holder define your holder and save it to the library select the holder, Verify little blue holder with red em toggles the holder on and off, it is the last one on the right under the VCR controls
