  1. I got a new computer and I'm having some problems getting mastercam back the way it was on the old computer. My lastest issue is having to regenerate toolpaths before I post them otherwise it for some reason doesn't put in some rapid moves sometimes. An example is I write my program and post it. But for some reason the G0 z.1 move is not at the begginning of my canned cycle or it doesn't put the G0 between tool paths using the same tool. I then regenerate the already clean operations and then it puts my G0's in. I'm a bit scared using this for posting since I'm not sure if its going to lead to a catastrophic problem while i'm running my lathe. And the old computer didn't have this problem (starting to regret getting the new computer even though the old one was slow) I can provide my post and other files if need be. Any help is greatly appreciated.
  2. Got a new computer this week and I keep getting an Out of Memory error when I'm trying to post some small programs. To get around it I have to save my file, then open and close mastercam so it will post. I looked at my resource monitor while it was taking a long time to post and my ram usage quickly approached 100 percent and then I got the out of memory error. Then I open and closed mastercam and it posted with no problems. And the program is pretty small so its not a lack of ram thats causing the problem. Anyone know how to fix it?
  3. I do have multiaxis. I was mainly trying to program it using a mill>contour toolpath(maybe it can't be done using that?). I poked around with the multiaxis stuff a bit but again wasn't succesful. And if its possible I always try to avoid using the 3d since it takes a bit more time to get it programmaed. And it is just a water groove, nothing critical about it.
  4. I don't run a hass mill/turn but for me if i select "Y Axis" under Rotary Axis Control it will lock the C axis and use the X/Y/Z axis to do the milling. Edit: just realized you said "transform". Yes, if you use transform it will move the c axis. Which may seem dumb, but if you think about milling something at 90 degrees on the diameter of the part then you would want the c axis to rotate so your tool wouldn't crash through the part when it tries to get to the next toolpath.
  5. That would work for this part but not for all the water grooves i have to cut. Tried to do this using axis substitution but sadly was unable to get it to work right. I think I'm ready to accept defeat. Thanks for the help anyways.
  6. Still havn't got a reply yet and i'm hoping someone will help me. I attached a jpeg of what i want to cut using the c axis. The red part is the angled groove that goes around the entire part. If someone can point me in the right direction that would be great. Everything i try the tool paths very strangly around the part. Thanks for any help.
  7. I'm having alot of trouble trying to program the attached file. I'm programing it for a 4 axis lathe/mill. What i want to do is cut the angled slot with a 1/4 ball mill by plunging and then rotating the c axis. Unfortunatly I've been programming these angled slots by hand which is a pain especially when the angled slots are a little more complicated. Any help is greatly appreciated. Edit: Wouldn't let me upload a STEP file to the forums so i put it on the ftp server. /solids/WATER GROOVE.STEP
  8. Yes, thank you that fixed it. Seems like an odd option to have.
  9. Upgraded to X5 today and my lathe toolpaths start below centerline and stop short at the end of the chain. | | |* (toolpath ends here) |* |* |* |* |* * * (tool path starts here) The lines is the geometry I selected and the * is where the tool goes. I loaded a file in X3 and looked at the toolpath and it was correct. Then I loaded it in X5 and it was wrong. I can't find anything anywhere on how to fix it so I'm hoping someone can help me.
  10. Can someone point me in the right direction for finding training (preferably a book) for using mastercam to program for a Okuma Multus. Thanks for your help.
  11. Now I'm more confused. I reposted the file multiple_grooves.mcx and it did post it correctly. So I quickly drew up another file with two grooves ftp://www.mastercam-cadcam.com/Mastercam_...le_grooves2.mcx And again this post did not rapid over before feeding into the next groove. I don't have any idea what changed between the two files. I'm using the same post so I am very confused.
  12. Ok, I figured it out. The version I am using is X3 ftp://www.mastercam-cadcam.com/Mastercam_...ple_grooves.mcx There is also an angled hole on this part that I've been trying to get Mastercam to drill for awhile and I for the life of me can't figure it out. The closest I got was Mastercam did drill it correctly on my screen but gave me an error when I tried to post it. Something about not using the TOP plane when using C-axis substitution.
  13. I couldn't figure out how to upload the file using the ftp site. I can view the ftp site but It keeps asking me for a password and username when I try to open the site in a Windows Explorer window. The only way I know how to get around it is to manually edited the progam. The other way is to create a toolpath for each groove and then force a toolchange for each groove.
  14. I'm having a problem with the way my post outputs multiple grooves. When the tool gets done with the first groove it goes back to the clearance plane and then starts feeding over to the next groove at an angle. Below is what it posts. N120 G0 X5.8 Z1. Z-.94 N130 G98 G1 X5.094 F20. N140 G0 X5.8 N150 G1 X5.034 Z-5.3 N160 G0 X5.8 N170 G0 X10. Z10. T2300 N180 M5 N190 M0 N200 M99 As you can see at N150 it starts feeding to the next groove instead of rapiding to Z-5.3 and then feeding down. I'm not sure if its something I'm doing wrong in mastercam or if its a problem with the post. On a personal note I am really enjoying these forums. I'm pretty new to machining and very new to mastercam. Thanks for all your help!
