  1. I have the same problem and I am using the USB HASP. Mark
  2. Thanks for the replies. You guys made it easy! Piece of cake. Mark
  3. I have been running V9 Router for almost two years. I recently upgraded to X. After setting up my machine definitions, right-click menu, toolbar setting etc, I want to load X onto a laptop for home use without having to start from square one again configuring it as well. Is there a backup/resore utility in X or maybe a "cheat sheet" that explains what files to backup, where they are, etc and what they are for? Thanks! Mark
  4. Exodus, My shop is in Santee! Is your instructor Mr. Pasewald by chance? I "recruit" several students a year from Santana High School to work in my router shop. Mark
  5. Charles Davis, of San Diego CADCAM deserves mega-kudos for all the help he has given me. His assistance has gone well beyond that of simply selling me software. His AWESOME post processors, and his seemingly unlimited source of human resources and general input has really helped my business prosper. Thanks Charles! Mark Linder
  6. Rekd, How did you fare through all of this? I hope your family is OK and your home is intact. By the way, thanks for your offer on Sunday morning. I actually didn't get a chance to read your cnczone message until yesterday, as we were hot tailing it out of there! Take care, Mark linder

  8. Charles and Rekd, I am back in my house in Ramona - Mt. woodson to be exact. The last contact I had with the "outside world' was with Rekd on sunday am. Right after that we loaded everything up and spent two wonderful nights in the Ramona K-Mart parking lot. Watched the fire get within 1/4 mile of the mountain I live on. Too close for comfort. I spent two night with people who actually lost their homes. What a tragedy. I feel VERY lucky. Anyway, Got back home this morning and everything is fine. Power is on, satellite, and internet access! My business in Santee- another city hit hard - only lost one day due to a power outage. What a boss - I paid the guys anyway! This whole thing is gonna make me seriously review my homeowner's insurance. Hopefully this nightmare will end soon. Mark Linder
  9. I am surpirsed the Federal Gov't did not get involved when Gray "Bengal Tiger' Davis pandered to the hispanic population by giving illegal immigrants the PRIVILEGE to get a driver's license without any background security checks - a bill he OPPOSED last year because it compromised California as well as national security. OK, let's pass a bill where we allow illegals (from ANY country/race) to drive legally in CA. Hmm. They ALREADY drive illegally - and don't get caught. Why should they now go the "legal" route, where they would have to show proof of insurance before getting the driver's license??? Davis, in my humble opinion, is a pathetic doofus who has compromised YOUR security and mine, just so he can have a slim and waining chance to maintain the control he is so obviously addicted to. What a weasel. Go Arnold. Mark Linder
  10. Carbon fiber rings for a 20 foot long telescope for a college. Phenolic intake manifold spacers for Mazda/Honda/Toyota drag racers Carbon fiber backplates for tachometers/speedometers carbon fiber frames sets for radio control helicopters. And I made a mess doing all of it. Have a great weekend. MArk Linder
  11. Chris, This is my first post to the Mastercam board. I own a small job shop in San Diego county. Charles Davis is my Mastercam reseller. I can say, without a doubt, that Mastercam has made my life SO much easier. 13 years ago I opened my shop using Smartcam. A couple of years ago, I "upgraded" to Surfcam. Last year I moved UP to Mastercam. The reseller is the most important link in the chain. Charles spent a lot of time developing and fine tuning the posts for our machines. During this time, I must admit I had one frustrating occasion that almost made me want to bail out of the software. I was frustrated about toolpaths not working correctly. Charles had me send the file to him, and - guess what - there was a check mark in a settings box in my configuration that didn't belong. I jumped to a conclusion that was hasty. Thank God it was my own infamiliarity with the software. Not the software itself. The moral of my story is, don't bash unless you have all the facts straight. The reseller should know the software inside and out. If he/she doesn't, find one who does. Then and only then will you find out what is going wrong. That's my .02 Mark Linder
  12. Thank you all for your input. "I get a new laptop, I get a new laptop".... Maybe my wife can use my Compaq?? Now, all Ihave to do is wait for the great Dell deals - like the one I just missed last weekend!
  13. Well, I just downloaded and installed the latest drivers for my system. The verify function seems to work fine now. Repeated verifies are now running at good speed. However, the fan still starts up right away and the unit gets HOT. CPU usage is at 100%. Even if i wanted to buy another laptop, what would I get, and how could I be sure the same heat problem wouldn't happen?
  14. Jay, Thanks for your response. No, Charles did not setup any allocation of RAM. Do you know a good starting point? I have a Mobility Radeon with 16MB RAM. The main thing is how darn slow the verify simulation is. An example would be 3 profiles that have just a few cutouts in them - not complex at all - and it is taking Verify about 8 minutes at full speed to complete the draw! Is there a known issue with the Verify function? I don't know if this is related, but if I choose to Verify a toolpath, letting Mastercam create its own bounding box, the speed seems OK. But if I then proceed to modify the bounding box size, the simulation is very very slow, no matter where I put the speed slider. However, even letting Mastercan create the bounding box, I do get this very slow simulation a lot as well. Hmmm. Thanks again for your reply. Mark Linder
  15. I am a prospective new buyer of Mastercam Router 8.1, and this is my first post. Charles Davis has given me the opportunity to try the software and I having a problem with heat, which may be slowing the entire system down. The moment I open the software, my laptop's fan starts whirring and continues throughout my session. I can feel a substantial amount of heat coming from the vents. When I attempt to run a Verify/Simulation of what are very simple parts, the simulation is VERY slow, possibly caused by the heat being generated (?) The fan ceases to run a minute or two after I close the program. I currently use Surfcam with no problems like this. I really think Mastercam is a better product, but I don't want to cook my computer! My laptop is a Compaq Presario 1.16 ghz mobile processor, 512MB RAM, Mobility Radeon video. Can anyone lead me to a solution (hopefully one that does not include the purchase of a new laptop!)? Thanks for any help/advise you can give me. Mark Linder
