The CD is very helpful. It won't teach you how to write posts, but it will explain how to edit them.

I was gonna print mine out, but I think it ends up being about 1,600 pages.

I'm thinking that unless your particular machine is repeatable to within .00005in, all you are doing by running it in metric mode with inch tooling is giving yourself an extra opportunity to make a mistake. Just becasue you can tell the spindle to go somewhere with five place precision dosn't mean that the spindle's resulting location is accurate to five places.

The problem that we encounterd here was that we had to hold +.0003/-.0000 (in) tolerance with an end mill. That is no problem on paper. Again with inch mode there was only .0003 to play with ( hard to split that up)... The machine holds the tolerance very well, but running it in metric mode gave us the flexibility to really tune it in just right. It has been working out very well for the past couple of years with no mistakes (knock on wood).

What happened? There was a post this morning about SP2, and it shows up in the search, but it says it doesn't exist. Was it removed? And why?

That was my doing. Once again my apologies to everyone for jumping the gun, especially S4A. frown.gif

Thank you Bullines for removing the thread and saving my a$$.

  4. Tintivilo,

    Welcome to the forum.

V5., wow it's been years since I have even used version 5. Not sure if I could be of any help here. Your boss should think about upgrading.

When you say the prompt tells you to ignore or quit-- Is it a mastercam prompt or windows?

What do you mean by "getting a framing error"?

    Please be mor specific.

Will the USA go Metric one day???

Don't know... Right now I work with both, inch & metric. Metric system is much easier to understand especially if converting to inches is not an issue. One big draw back is that most of the tooling I own is inch so I still have to use my calculator and figure out where I am (operator intervention-just another way for a mistake to happen). One big advantage for using metric system is the machine tolerances; If the machine is set to metric, the tolerancing improves (.0001mm vs .0001in)

  6. Do you have the latest patches? Are you sure everything is configured correctly? Are you using .SET setting in the configuration settings?-- What version of MC are you using?

If you're on 9.1 you also have to change this path to sdirpath "C:Mcam91MillSetup".

Mine works correctly even though I never use it.

  7. Glad to hear Guhring worked for you... They really are excellent drills especially with the firex coating. I'm in the process of switching over to Guhring from Mitsubishi, not because the Mits. drills are inferior in any way but the size range from Guhring is really an advantage especially for its lengths.

    good explanation

are you saying that each time a system prompt me to change tool, i have to register the length and z height of my cnc machine?

Yes... Your H# is your TLO#. Put in the length of the tool into your corresponding offset #. That way the machine knows where the tool is in relation to where the part is.
