  2. thanks guys i will try all the advice and let you know how i get on. i want comp in control.
  3. hey guys, im having some problems, im finishing a slot .451 x .1930 with full rad's using a contour ramp with a 4mm Endmill (im using x5). im trying to finish it using cutter comp but when it cancels comp its going out side the slot boundary therefore milling into the part. is there any way to force it to apply and cancel comp inside the slots boundary?
  4. ill get one posted up, o yeah i know, just nice to learn the new stuff and benefit from potential
  5. hey everyone, we have just done the move to x5 from mc8/mcx. im finding it hard in getting my head round all the new high speed paths ect. im practicing by just machining a cavity of a part for a simple fixture and just really having a play around, but im finding it hard to get what i wont. we dont have the training for another month. does anyone have or will to share a sample file of a cavity so that i can see what "new paths" are used ect. any help would be appreciated.
  6. there not through holes, other holes 60 deg to these must intersect at the bottom.
  7. Hey guys, Im after some advice on deep hole drilling, got a new job im starting next week or so and just like some info if possible/advice. The part has 2 deep holes, Ø 0.1887 x 4.950 deep Ø 0.250 x 4.550 deep The material im told is stainless steel, what grade im unsure as the drawing just states “forging steel”. We usually deal with REX but im told its not as exotic as that. Any info as to speeds feed, strategy (peck plunge), drills to use? . The part will be done on a 5 axis miller max spindle 18,000 rmp. And here comes the best bit.......... i have no thru coolant Any info would be great Thanks

    5 axis

right guys, i have a full 5 axis post for mc9, im wanting to use it for mcx (mastercam 10) but it doesnt seem to work when i use the update post function. it doesnt output any B or C moves. The cycle def 19 is there but just +0 for values. when it comes to posts i dont have a clue but im willing to learn. can anyone shed any light on y? will the post only work for mc9?
  12. im using mcx(mastercam 10) thanks guys!
  13. hi ppl, this might be a silly question. i know this can be done on like mc8 and mc9 but i cant seem to find it on mcx say i have some basic geometry and want to create some point dimensions so that it can be used on a lathe. i want it to give me Z and a Dia. not x and a y value. In the old ones you use to open up lathe and the axis would be z and d. any ideas?

    X +

i have done a search but cant seem to find the answer, but is X + only compatible with the newer version? im using mcx, is there a version for this?
  15. im doing new job out of custom 455 (stainless) this is the first time i have used this material and i am having problems with the speeds and feeds. i am only using a 2mm ball nose and a 1mm ball nose as the part is really small. material is supplied in bar form. Has anyone used 455 before and could they recommend any speeds and feeds. any info would be appreciated
  16. its on as take 4!! can any1 remove files of the ftp? i have a few failed attempts
  17. yeah x. im uploading another 1 called take 3. give me a min

  20. im using mcx, i was just up loading and got an error i will place it on again
  21. hi everyone im doing a part that a few companies have failed to make, for what reason i do not now, i did the program and cut one in plastic and it looked spot on, started in stainless and i have had tool breakage after tool breakage on one feature. im after some advice/guidance on my programming strategies. all that i know is what i have picked up myself. iv put the file on the ftp in mcx its advice - help. i have resorted to dropping the step over n step down right down and letting it run over the weekend.
  22. our department consists of 4 engineers 3 of which use cad/cam. (me and two others) they both are over 50 and slightly old school and dont like change im 22 and love anything new, so im pushing forward in this area quickly and trying to utilise all the resources to there full potential. we dont use it for full sim 5 axis as we dont have a post (YET ). we use full 5 axis on our high speed in the tool room, but they use visi. could you recommend any books?
  23. filter is on 1 to 1. iv just copied it across to another file, reapplied the path and its worked fine, but with the same settings in the old file it miss a surface.
  24. sorry for the lack of info ppl. Currently im finishing it with a scallop with a 1mm ball, 16500 rpm step over 0.05 feed 850. M/C been used in a DMU 50 evolution (5 axis) its been cut out of stainless.the scallop path does not look right when its generating it seems to miss one of the vertical faces, is this because there is no draft on that face? this is a prototype at the min so there are no actual surface finish requirements as yet, i will be machining the first one next week but have concerns about this area. thanks for the help as well everyone. i'v only been a member a few days and already learned alot.
