  1. thanks for all the help and we curently make them on a punch press but there is a second op that has to be machined and they constantly get sent back and i think itll be faster and easier to do the whole part on a cnc mill. and i love the tab idea thanks again everyone.

Drogers, When you make the contouring toolpath in mastercam there is an option for leaving tabs built into the toolpath (see attached image)

  2. So simple I feel foolish for asking.

I changed my reports to portrait and the window (page length) is well short of 8 inches of the 11. Is there a setting in setup that needs to be changed and would this be on my top report file or all sub reports as well?

    thanks for the help.

    Hi Bill,

I think what you will need to do is drag your boundaries in your main report AND your subreports to get the new page dimensions you are after. length will not be too much of a concern for your subreports, but width will be. Please note my previous post, and if you are getting blank pages when you print, you may need to reduce the width of your page and all entities, this will fix that problem.

  3. jake e. wat version of mastercam do you have. i am curiose because your set up sheet lookes nothing like mine. i have mcx4

drogers, You have the option of using activereports in X4, and can thus make a setup sheet that looks and provides the same information as Jake's. I feel you have your version configured to GUI or .SET file and that is why you are not seeing the same sort of thing. If you want a setup sheet like Jakes, firstly select activreports in your config file, and then have a look at the activereports designer that is supplied with mastercam

  4. I have been requsted to build a custom set-up sheet, although I am not sure where to start. I have a logo, but there are so many nice versions placed on this site, I am not sure how to begin building such a page. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You could start from by using an existing sheet as a template. You could use mastercam's default activereports and just modify it to suit your purposes...that way all of your standard subreports and image caps etc will already be setup for you, and just require some tweaking. I found the Activereport tutorial somewhere online, cannot recall where, but it is good to give you an understanding of the concepts involved...even if you just read it through will help with your knowledge.

  5. Does your levels manager tell you that there is any entites on your levels? make sure that your levels are visible (ALT+Z brings up your levels manager). If There is entities and you still cannot see them, try screen-> unblank entity-> selecet all(CTRL+A)-> and then press enter to confirm selection. Fit all items to screen (ALT+1) and see if that makes your entites display

  6. I wouldn't go windows 8. Why would you? It is very tablet based...plus now that the special is over, you'll have to pay a few hundred bucks instead of the 40 that i got it for, Windows 7 64bit is still my OS of choice, and by the time they drop support for it, you will be ready to buy a new rig anyway. Wish I could afford a nice machine like that for at home on top of a gaming pc!

  7. I do however, employ 4 (soon to be 5) of what I consider to be some of the best MasterCam users in the country....

....for releasing software that wasn't beta-tested... or worse, was tested by people who only perform 2D operations.

Perhaps it would be beneficial for you to sign your programmers up to the beta testing program...surely the best programmers in the country would not let any bugs go unnotiiced.

Don't get me wrong, I agree with the majority of what you are saying, however i think that assuming the beta testers only use 2D operations is an insult to the people who beta test this software. Many of the forum members here are in the beta testing program, and it is not something that they are employed to do...they do it to aid with the development of the software by testing it in the real world. I, like you, am only just moving to X6 now because of the issues X6 had upon release. I'm not sure how the software was released with so many faults, but i would not be blaming the beta testers.

  8. Hi Jake, sorry for that, I misunderstood what you were asking! this is one that I do not use, but just tested it on my setup sheet and it works. Your datafield should be "NCFILE/NCIFILE-LONG" to get what you want. the specificity of your datafield is relative to your report datasource. Since your datasource is //setupsheet...and you want to get to //setupsheet/ncfile/ncifile-long, you need to include the ncfile/ncifile-long in your datafield, not just the ncifile-long. Hope this makes some sense and is helpful.

  9. Ok, sorry for the rookie question, but I went to xform scale, how do I divide by anything? It comes up with a window, and there is an option of either "Uniform" or "XYZ". It defaults to uniform. Then under "Uniform", you get a choice of "Factor" and "Percentage".

I don't know what this all means.

Uniform is what you want to use. Factor means you Scale it based on a ratio, and percentage is obviously scaling to a percentage of current size. to scale from metric to imperial, enter a factor of 1/25.4. Mastercam will calculate that for you. You can also select to move or copy your geometry, and where you want your scale origin to be...i normally leave it at default (0,0,0)
