You should Blank your geometry once you have created the solid, this will prevent you or anyone else from modifying or corrupting the Solid Geometry.
+1, the other thing you can do is if you are certain that you will not need to change/suppress any of the features of your solid, you can use the NOHIST.dll c-hook to remove any associativity that your extruded solid has. I have found this helpful on many occasions!

Gotcha! Sorry Im a little slow! Yeah I would say without drawing your engage line and doing a 3d contour, the first ramp method (doing the 2 passes) would be the closest method i know how to.

Yeah, that will work, but will ramp the full length of the contour making two passes.
Is this more what you were thinking?
This just has the ramp set steeper and no finsh pass at full depth

Problem im having is the entry plunge, material is SS304 and im worried that the tool would clog up and fail. Wondering if there is a way to ramp the entry with a contour and comp set to off.
Have you tried just doing a contour(ramp)??? This will follow your geomtery with compensation set to off, and get it to do a pass at final depth

yes it is, but it involves a bit of work from the operator, you need to create toolpaths, and assign tools etc...not as simple as pressing a button and you have gcode though.

What sort of part is it? If you can share the igs file perhaps you may be able to get a little more help from here

If you use the surface high speed Waterline, you can set the maximum stepover as well as the step down which can help to keep the surface fairly consistent.

are you using shielded eternet cable to transfer your programs?

I use activereports setup sheet, takes a bit of time to sort out, but definitely well worth your time

Prob the main advantage I see is that the machine def can be accessed from multiple workstations, instead of requiring multiple versions on every local drive. This also means any modifications you make, you only need to make once.

Hi Daniel,
How did you go with your activereports? I have been playing around with them for a little while and have created a working setup sheet close to 12 months ago. Im always tweaking it to make it better. If you are still looking for help i can see if I can assist you. Below is an image of my current setup sheet.

Wow this thread is a little old! I've never really had problems importing step files. I usually select the import option for mastercam to attempt to heal the solid and they come through great 99.5% of the time. I've sometimes run into these issues with CATIA files though.
