  1. Cathedral,so what youre telling me is all I have to do is change my G99 to a G98? I could do that manually. But then the tool is still going to retract to Z-.59 isn't it?

No, your tool will retract to the clearance plane, which is wherever the Z is at the start of the cycle. (ie G43 z???)

That is the whole point of G98

Go to your control def, under machine cycles choose return to initial height

  2. Ok I'll try that. As for roughing I'm using pct curve cut.75 cobalt rougher. Running 325 rpm at 5 imp. It seems to be running pretty nice now. .375 step down. .25 step over using dynamic core.

Then using area for the pocket.but the helix entry is killing these cutters. What angle is easy on the em?

I would use a start hole
  3. Wow! My first attempt at inco today. .. what's the trick to drill a .5 dia hole 4 inches deep? All I can use are cobalt drills. I'm running 200 rpm 2 imp .05 peck flood coolant. I can get about 2 inches deep, just can't get the heat out,and it work hardens. .

For a cobalt drill, you speed is way too high, your feed is WAY too high, and each peck you take is like rapping the end on the drill with a ball peen hammer.

I've been having good luch with OSG VPH drills.  They are powdered metal, so they're  nowhere near the price of carbide and they work great ininconel.

  4. around here it's like this;

Make sure the enclosure is filled with chips up to the door

The coolant tank should be low enough that the pump is sucking air

DO NOT add way oil until the machine alarms out.

Pins and gages from the previous job should be scattered across the workbench

Pins and gages for the current job should be nowhere in sight.

If your parts are on a cart, make sure they are accompanied by several empty potato chip bags and Monster energy cans

And always remember to leave dirty rags EVERYWHERE

  5. OK I've found that I can't even mill a simple circle without cutter comp!

    I am entering:

    G00 X-5.8 Y0 (initial position)

    Z-0.1 (1st depth cut)

G01 Y1. F5. (linear move to top of circle)

    G90 G3 X-5.8 Y1. I0 J-1. (mill circle)

Y0 (linear move back to center)

    I get error: "Invalid I, J, or K in G02 or G03"

Are you guys saying the G01 linear move needs to be on the same line as the G03?

You need a G1 on the last line, Y0

  6. Some engineers are more flexible than others, and it's sometimes hard to guess. There may be no reason at all for a 120 deg pont, or there may be a real good reason. Can you drill them with your coolant through drills, a tad high, then go back in with a HSS drill ground to 120 deg and pick out the point?

  7. Sent everything to my re-seller and they verified what you found Guy, works in the old verify but not in the new simulator. They're submitting the bug to CNC.

Maybe they'll get it all to work someday. Until then, I still like the old verify.
