  1. lurking in the shadows of the search function. 90% of questions can be answered in there alone. We use Pro/Manufact for 3d programming and that is all i do anymore. We have two seats of level 1 and one seat of wire. I waited til X came out to start leaning on the powers that be to upgrade to level 3 and drop pro man like the piece of %$^& that it is! Hopefully we will be up to three soon!
  2. The Kit comes with a lot of the good options as you mentioned standard, it has box ways and 20,000 rpm versus 14,000 on the Mori. Our budget leans towards the Kit, I just want to make sure we aren't buying junk. Kitamura has a small presence in our area(that I know of).
  3. We are currently looking at a new vertical mill and have it narrowed down to a Mori NV5000 and a Kitamura Mycenter 3xif. We are looking at doing mold frames and some hard milling. We have a Haas VF-5 50 taper and are looking for something smaller, more accurate, and more rigid. The Mori seems like a better machine but the Kit is a lot cheaper for what would seem to be a solid machine. One concern I have with the Kit is what kind of shape will it be in in 5 years. I know this forum comes with a boatload of experience and am looking forward to your input.
  4. If you have level 3 you can create surfaces that your end mill won't be allowed to violate. Do you ever program 3d toolpaths?
  5. what level mastercam do you have?
  6. Lars, I have machined small parts from ultem, I would recommend some sort of air blast, I found that the material will build up on tools so you want to keep up on that to prevent breakage. Tialn coating seemed to work good along with a open fluted cutter. The cutting edges hold up pretty good.
  7. we had that problem with another window in X and changing the resolution to the minimum John recommended did the trick!!
  8. I am glad I decided to stay on the good side of Rekd!! Too bad Ted Nugent isn't running for Gov. of CA. He is a little, ok a lot extreme but his book God, Guns and Rock and Roll makes a lot of good points. I competition shoot M1 Garands at Camp Perry every summer, hunt whitetails with my trusty 30-06 blast woodchucks, squirrels, and rabbits with shotguns and my 4 year old daughter will know everything about every gun I own. Uneducated curiosity is about as dangerous as it gets. I think I'm gonna have to sling some lead this weekend just because them damn liberals don't want me too. Kyle teh join the NRA if you're not a member!!
  9. New Tech Cutting Tools, Inc. newtechcuttingtools.com I've used they're superbee indexable carbide form cutters with no problems. hth
  10. oops, sorry I was a minute too late.
  11. hemly tool supply http://www.hemlytool.com/ I have gotten numerous items from them.
  12. thanks guys, all the info and links are very helpful.
  13. both, everything, i dunno. Like a book to go to sleep by.
  14. has anybody ever run across any good literature on macro definitions out there? Just trying to get more edumacated here. If anybody knows you know.
  15. quote: If you or RandleXX are feeling hurted by my limerick I will destroy it and want to say sorry in my turn ! naw, leave it there. I think it's funny.
  16. alright, i'll stick around, lay low for awhile anyway. (won't be hard for me) I'm a sucker for Captain Morgan.
  17. thanks rekd, I was hoping u wood understand.
  18. I would like to take this opportunity to apologize for my behavior on the forum last week. I can go on and on but the bottom line is I got frustrated, lost my cool, and got out of line. This will probably be my last post here, as many of you will probably be glad to hear. I don't want this post to turn into a flame war, I hated to even post something non-technical, but I felt I owed you guys(and gals) at least that much. I would have done this sooner but I sent a personal apology to James which he actually accepted. He even said I should stick around, which goes to show the quality of his character. Once again I'm sorry and I wish you all the best. I'm just a blind squirrel trying to find a t-nut. over and out oh one more thing before I go, I would like to take Budgie up on the challenge, so let me know how to take the next step. 19. you call me a queen when you have hair like a girl.(oh bother). I asked a question, people asked me a question, I answered, and then get roasted. Do me a favor. Choke on a bag of xxxx and die. Kyle teh wrecked Rekd(you're it, go **** yourself)
  20. I'm sorry, I didn't mean to offend anybody. You guys are right, and I am wrong.(obviously) At least i refrained from using profanity.
  21. Just kicking it back up to the top. Beacuse quote: Nobody as attacking you, they are just attacking your absolute statements. in the words of bob ritchie, It's not bragging mutha bugga when you back it up quote: I'd run for my life!! We have a shop full of PC Based COntrols and OMG.... Unstable when the temperature rises, they suffer from every problem your PC at home/in the office does, let me count the ways that PC based controls suck over the long haul. Sure, right now it may be great, but what about when you've had the machine for say 5 years (Which is eons when looking at computer hardware) what happens when something fails, will you be able to go down to Fry's and get a replacement part? The control is basically two pc's. I can upgrade anything on them just like any computer. As far as stability, if you have ever run a pc with only windows and one proven compatible software, it is extremely stable. You can get replacement parts for pc's at wal-mart. Last time I checked you couldn't do that with Fanuc controls. quote: Will the company still be around in 5 years? Will Makino? Will Mastercam? Anybody can be bought out, sold out or shut down. Anybody. quote: As for using straight line segments to represent arcs then running through a filter, I would re-evaluate my position if I were you.I must have misled you here. I use point to point data for the fitting of splines whose accuracy is based on the dynamics you define. quote: I was ( I left because travel was too hard on my family) an Applications Engineer for Mori Seiki for a couple of years. HSM and FMS's were my area of expertise. Mori is an excellent machine, but hsm is not a strong point for them. Could it be there is a technology out there you didn't try? Just cause you had the title doesn't mean you were good at it. ps That hat doesn't necessarily make you intelligent. as for Iskander... quote: Life is fun, Mastercam is fun . Mastercam is life and life is Mastercam ! you need to get a life Just kidding! You guys have a good day.
  22. quote: And BTW , I am also from the cave . WTH is roeders ? I never heard of it either, I am just sharing my experience. All I did was give this company a chance, and they proved themselves. Don't attack me like a pack of wolves. I am here seeking technical advice from my brothers in cam. All the hot topics in this forum are turning into O/T's and personal conversation. This is a technical forum, not a chat room. If I am wrong, kick me off. Do you live in a cave? No. Are you going to limit yourself by going with the mainstream all the time? Yes. Deckel Maho is a very bad comparison. That is like comparing a fadal with a Mori. There is no comparison. Remember this when you live your life using what you feel are the best products just because they are more popular, The #1 golfer is black. The #1 rapper is white. The French think the USA is arrogant. The Germans don't want to fight? The America's Cup is in Switzerland. The three top names in the USA are, Bush, Colon, and Dick. And, the tallest player in the NBA is chinese. Mastercam is NOT the best software. Makino is NOT the best machine tool. It just doesn't make sense does it? I must be on crack!! let's end this thread for it is no longer informational.
  23. quote: how far ahead will it look? and how quickly? 10,000 blocks. It is a pc based control running on a windows 2000 platform. there are two dual amd processor computers, one for the control software, windows, and user interface, and the other one processes the information and feeds the drives. (you can also play pinball while waiting for your part to finish at 10:00 at night.) quote: Prove it! Not just with salesman's BS either. Are you using MetaCut Pro to filter your toolpath to get NURBS? I am using another software to accomplish nurbs machining, but I am looking at metacut pro. I had test cuts done on a Makino SNC64, a Mikron HSM400, a Roeders RFM600, a Mori Seiki, and a Roku Roku. The Roeders topped all in finish, cycle time, and accuracy. I had no intention in buying the wrong machine for that would have put my job in jeapordy. The japanese machines are excellent and every machine has it's purpose. If you talk to people who do high end high speed machining you will find out that the Japs are good, But the Germans are better. I am selling nothing. I am just sharing my year long research experience.
  24. quote: Ok I've got to ask ...superior and faster than what? superior and faster than Bostomatics, Mikrons, Digma's, Makino's, etc....
  25. Roger Martin is the Winner!! Kudos and props to you. For those wondering about this request, the machine I am programming uses dynamics very similar to those of the MC filter. It takes G1 points and draws a spline through them and then cuts the spline. The more critical the accuracy and surface finish, the tighter you make the spline. This results of this process are superior finishes and faster cycle times. It is a roeders rfm600 hsc vertical machining center. thanks again for all of your help
