To me it looks like you have your Axis Combination setup incorrectly. It is a A-C axis along the X, but you have everything built to rotate around the Y axis. Copy the TOP WCS then Spin the 90 degrees from where you are to make the part lined up along the X Axis. Change all the operations to use the new WCS as the Primary WCS and see if that helps solve your issues.

ok great thanks I am starting another similar part with bolt circles at each end of a shaft. im going to line the centerline up with the x axis and go from there.

  2. So I'm a little unclear. id like to get my x y z  zero with my table at a-90. In mastercam I think I need to start with my part as if  I were at a 0.0. I'm look for the rt way to do this.

  3. I think I'm messing around to much. Just getting into the 5axis world. I have cylinder I need to put a bolt circle at each end. I have it oriented on my table parallel to Y axis. I played around with call oo88 and was able to park a at -90. pick up my dia.. and give me the offset for the center of the cylinder at a0. I'm thinking I cant preload my machine offset to a-90. or I'm doing it incorrectly. I keep getting exceed axis  alarm at mastercam.

  4. Hay guys I'm laughing ,

I was reading past content I had created and found advice pertaining to all wireframe getting copied to new level. BINGO.. From there a simple 2d fillet. Sometimes overthinking can be an enemy (for myself any who)

  5. Hello everyone hope all is well,

I'm not sure what to do with the section of the model that doesn't have curves for fillets and faces. I'm on a 5 axis Mu5000v ( big time rookie...its cool though ) I think I want to get the 2 faces with a parallel toolpath id like to run normal to both surfaces and walk up rad on second face.

Thanks for your time in advance

  6. Good morning,

I'm am familiarizing myself with cleaning up my model. Home > analyze> check model definitely have problems but all lye within my engraving and u can see very clearly that lines don't meet up. Thinking I can remove the engraving to fix. Help said attempt to heal solid when opening option.  model pre> simplify solid> optimize show issues with engraving also. I can keep choosing this option and I get different numbers of errors. Do I need to go in and fix these issues and then run this feature again till I get zero or should I approach in a different fashion? Thanks for everyone's help this forum has proven to be a very valuable tool for my toolbox I wish I used more frequently years ago.

  7. Hello everyone hope all is well.

I am having a hard time getting  what i am looking for.  When grab my solid  for a silh. boun. I'm not getting an exact replica of my boundary. I'm getting broken arcs with different rads by a couple of thou. Its not that big of a deal in this application but i mill sprockets also where the rad on the teeth are very critical.

  8. My cut pattern looks ok. As soon as I turn on collision control its all goes south. when I run verify without collision control I don't get any collisions. i, also trying to get it to stop just before the step at the top. Thanks ahead of time and hope to return favor some how some way.

  9. Can anyone help  me out. Trying to rough with a curve toolpath or shall i say learn 5 axis programing. I don't like the entry and cant get it to do anything better then this.

Incorrect file. Missing my 4 depth cuts at .05

I was looking at the file that cncasylum posted, and got wondering, how the heck do you make a part, held like that, without a crazy amount of chatter?  I'm sure it works, because I see the method often, but it seems like the chatter would be unmanageable.

I was acually impressed wit rigidity. This big block when mounted was very ridged. In vertical position with indicator on the part i only saw .002 when pushing and pullin on it. I ran a 2 inch 4 flute facemill at .2 depth of cut .005 per tooth at 10000 rmps (200 ipm)and it loved it. My plan was to leave stock rails on left and right side with tabs that get cut off. But having to do the work on the front end first while rigid and working bk was a challenge for me.

Not to worry. I feel so honored to have your assistance. Its a brand new tool in my box. I do plan on playing with is part in my free time via hle of mastecam at home to make my vision real. Id like to play with your file from cam instructor but didnt have luck opening it in my HLE. Should i be able to open it?

  12. Well after almost a full week of learning and trying new things, the money makers want parts faster. I'm now going to run in 2 vertical machines op1 an 2 style 2 parts each. Convex side 1st  with 4 work holes (1/4-20s) in the corners and .125 pin holes at the top of arc to locate on op 2. Thinking ill dish out an extra peace of stock so op 1 will sit rt in and off to the races (hopefully). I'm going to apply the toolpaths we discussed so id like to thank everyone for the pointer and hope to here from you in the future. Either way I had a lot of fun trying to make the five axis go. Ill get better over time ive got 25 years left so that should be plenty of time

  13. This morning I roughed out the fines on the concave side of my part that I posted. Didn't really car for it, but it made it. I used a dynamic Opti rest rough off my stock model.

I used a 3/16 .02 bull endmill. The dynamic motion ate me alive.  I would like to travel down thru there with 100 engagement depth of cut style. Any recommendation on toolpaths or different ways to use the one I am.

  14. That just all soun

No Planes need to match the WCS that is being used. If you have moved everything to TOP/TOP then yes your planes could be TOP/TOP, but 5 axis toolpaths will work regardless of the planes when doing 5 axis. The difference is the WCS is the Zero and orientation in which a programmer is making the programs. If the model is moved to Top then it could be Top/Front, TOP/Back, TOP/Right, TOP/Left and Top/Whatever plane you need and the 5 Axis toolpath will work. The WCS is what controls the output for the the program in relationship to how you are going to machine it on the machine. I have a part right now with 4 different Lathe Groups. It is a Vertical Mill/Turn part. I have one finish model and 4 Setups coming from that one model. It is about 800 operations and 12 tapes out of Mastercam. I currently have 4 WCS planes for each side and rotation of the part. I have another 40 planes for the other things going on.

Review the file on CamInstructor. I have a FACE1 WCS and then 4 other Planes for each face. The WCS for the operations doesn't match TOP. That was on purpose to help people understand the WCS process on a simple part like that.

FYI CAPS IS CONSIDERED RUDE AND YELLING so please turn off the caps lock when responding on the forum. Have a good day.

That just all sounds insane. I imagine over time and constant improvement it is the destination. I've been machining and playing  with mills for 15 years , mainly vertical 2d applications. The last 3 to 4 have been pushing into 3d toolpaths. Just this past march boss man purchased an Okuma  Mu5000v, being the only mill guy in the shop she's all mine.

Download my sample file from CamInstructor. I have a swarf toolpath in that example that might help.

    CamInstructor Link

Without a sample file to see what your seeing going to extremely hard for anyone to know how to help. Do you have a floor surface checked? Are you using upper and lower edges? Are you using tilt lines? What is the normal of the surfaces if using surfaces and not solids?
