  1. I have a bore in a part that I want to cut with a standard boring bar. there is no hole in the part and I want cut from the top of the contour to the center with small z moves inward.
  2. wow, this must be the first time ive posted on here without a single reply! I was under the impression that the cut p-550 was very popular. I called my mc rep and they said to try the ones provided with mc but we are new to edm and probably would be fumbling with it for a long time. does anyone know if mc has a specific post just for this machine or do you guys usually modify a post that is provided in mc? the machine has its own programming system in it but we would like the option of working offline at our desks too. thanks for any input!
  3. will I need a custom post to program this within mastercam? I see there seems to several agie charmilles posts within mc.
  4. I'm trying to set up a computer for a new employee and the f9 key works fine in 2017 but I cannot get it to show axis lines at all in 2018. any ideas?
  5. we now have an 80 gallon piston compressor that is on its way out. we can get a screw if we want one. I'm looking at the ingersol rand with the 80 gallon tank.they have a 120 gallon too but it wont fit in the little compressor room weve made. we have one of these in the adjacent bldg. and they opted for the 120 gallon unit because of the additive mfg machines. it seems nice and quiet but I also think that it runs ALL the time even when there is no air demand. anyone have any feedback on this type of compressor? we have 4 haas vertical cnc mills in our shop an edm and a haas umc 750 5 axis. the old compressor kept up ok so I'm thinking the 80 gal will be ok. your thoughts?
  6. forgot to say I use threadmill all the time to get continuous motion on angles like this.
  7. ive done this tons of times in earlier versions with success but im having trouble getting my code to output arcs now. I have a shallow chamfer I need to put on the edge of a round hole about 1.5 in dia. I can only get the code to run continuously without a zipper line by using threadmill as the toolpath. if the angle is not very shallow it outputs arcs but at this shallow angle it outputs a spline made up of lines. my threadpitch is .0005 and its only going about .06 deep. my post says allow helixes in all planes and the box is not checked to "linearize helixes" on the threadmill page. any ideas?
  8. its an engraving program in 2018.it took me for ever to get the rast to vector conversion just right. its a huge file and I finally got it perfect.my stock is the other way in the mach so I did a rotate 90 deg. after about 15 min I figured it locked up and did cont alt del and stopped it. now when I try to reopen it I get "mc crash reporting" and it wont even let me open the file at all.in the small file preview window I can still see the preview of it and the file is still quite large too.
  9. that's great gcode! that would definitely work!
  10. thank you. im currently running it from top to bottom.its aluminum so it takes the first cut no problem. in steel I will need to rethink it the way you described.
  11. I have a round tube with holes and counterbores for screws .the counterbores are on the inside and the screws will point outward. I have a keycutter with a reduced shank that fits thru the hole and would like to contour ramp upwards.i can do it fine going down but cant get it to work properly going upwards.any ideas? it will ramp upwards but will not do the small fine pitch I want.
  12. thanks, do you have an example I could look at?iven if it was a simple sphere
  13. I need to output code for an experiment on a additive mfg machine. I want to take a model and do a layer or waterline cut about every .003. what if the model starts folding back over itself? it wont get to every area because it thinks the shank of the tool cant get there but in reality this is not a problem. has anyone ever tried anything like this?
  14. how do I get this back to just x and z diameter?
  15. sometimes when I open an old lathe program in 2017 or 2018 it comes in with the mill XYZ coordinate system active. what is the easy way to get it back to diameter and Z only? is there a way to force it to stay in these coordinates if the file is in mc lathe only?
  16. yes peter,if that is Abigail exactly as ive spelled it. I forgot to mention that here at work im not allowed to even install any new fonts.
  17. i need to get the word Abigail into mastercam for school tonite. ive tried just about everything but cant get it in as a "font". I don't want to do a raster to vector conversion. I guess I could find a Hebrew font and add it in but is there a way to do it with using the widows font? it looks like I could change the language to Hebrew but mc still wont take it.
  18. im doing a couple of complex grafix .when I run rast to vect in 2017 it converts fine but some of the final geometry goes down a lille bit below z 0. not too much of a problem because I can project it to z 0 but this is a LOT of geo and it takes a long time.if I do the same conversion in x9 it converts flat right on zo.is there some setting that's different?
  19. ok so it looks like some of the geo was on different z levels slightly. I projected all to z 0 and all seems to work now.
  20. im doing a school project and we did a raster to vector conversion in mc.the conversion went well and it looks pretty good.the original jpg was big (about 12 in square) after the conversion we got a few error msgs about zero length line. I have straightened these out before but we have a lot of them in this file.is there a way to get these to be continuous chans in a batch or will I need to play with each one individually?
  21. can this be done in mc?i need to do about 500 parts. I searched but couldn't find anything definite.
  22. sorry john.they want .145 wide 1.65 deep.(do you or I ever sleep?) that's out of the question for me even trepanning in the lathe. I have to cut this this morning with tooling we have on hand. I got them to settle for .25 wide but I still need to hold +-.002. I have a pretty rigid looking .25 em but 3/16 looks kinda flimsy. im sending the .25 in right now and retracting after coming out. ill letcha kno how it goes.
  23. i have to cut a very deep round groove in an aluminum part.ill spiral it down with lotsa coolant. I also would like to comp it.the groove is the exact width of the endmill .250. comp on the top is no problem because its off the part. I kno I can retact from the bottom before comping off but this usually leaves a line where it comes up.is there a way to spiral back up and out? of course I would like to come up with a much courser pitch than going down.
