  1. Thanks Pete. I will just keep working around the problems until the next release.
  2. Everything worked fine in X2mr2. Now the customer has updated there software and I can't open in X2 anymore. When I open .sat files in X3 all I get is wireframe. There are no surfaces. Even when I try an older file that I know is good in X2, X3 results are the same. Is this a known problem?
  3. We have done the same thing in brass. We drew an arc at the ID diameter then broke it in 2 halves. Then use contour ramp with multipasses. Just figure out how much you will need to travel in the z. After the 2 halves are programed then use transform mirror to get the other sides. We used a boring bar with a point ground on it for a tool. HTH
  4. Everything is working fine now. Thanks for the quick response. This forum is a great resource.
  5. The auto cursor is snapping to points the full length of the line. Not only endpoint, midpoint, but hundreds of points. I'm not sure if I turned something on by mistake but I've never had this problem before. We have 2 seats and only 1 like this. Any suggestions?
  6. Yes, Same thing has happened here. Good to now it not just my problem.
  7. Thanks for the replies. I tried to convert the .sat files in to parasolids with solidworks but I am still get an error message because of the later version. I was hoping not to make this the customers problem.
  8. We have a customer that just upgraded their software to Key Creator 4.0. Now, I am not able to open .sat files from them. We are running MR0105. Has anyone had this problem? Is there a fix available? Thanks
  9. CadCam, both of our machines, the 4020 and the 6030 are separated from our computer station. We are in the middle of a move. I am not able to send programs to these machines other than using a floppy. The 6030 doesn't have a floppy drive.
  10. I was going to put the program on disk, load it in the 4020 then try to transfer from the 4020 to the 6030. But that is not an option. Our 6030 doesn't have disk drive and that is the machine I need to run this particular job in. So here is how things are going. We also have a Fadal 15. Today, that machine went down. That particular machine needs to run 24/7. So we had to steal parts off of the 6030 to keep the 15 going. Life is good. Thanks to all
  11. Thanks for the advice everyone. Hopefully this is just a short term problem for us. What we ended up doing was just printing out the program we needed and manually(I hate that word)punching in the program. It was about 12 pages long but it was a good learning exercise for the lucky guy who did it.
  12. We are in the middle of our annual spring (rearrange the whole shop) move. As of right now we have a Fadal 4020 and 6030 that are separated from the rest of our machines and our computer station. The 6030 doesn't have a disk drive which is my whole problem. After hearing what you guys have had to say, I just realized that we can use a laptop to get the program to the machine. (right?). Now my next problem is trying to find a laptop around this place on a saturday. Thanks for your replies.
  13. I am trying to figure out how to transfer a program from one fadal to another by linking them together with RS-232 cable. It seems like they should be able to communicate between each other, but I can't seem to figure it out. I have tried different baud rates and still nothing. I would greatly appreciate if someone could tell me how or if I have just went completely crazy and it is not possible. Thanks in advance for the assistance.

    2d sweep

Sounds like an easy solution. Thanks again for the quick replies.
  15. Hello to all, I have a question on the 2d sweep toolpath. If I am using a 1/2 ball endmill, the first cut wants to take .250 depth of cut. After that first cut then it will do the stepover I have programed. I just want to avoid taking that first big cut. Is there a setting to help with this? I usually just raise my offset but would like to not have to do this. Thanks for the help.
  16. We will be working all weekend. We are working mandatory 60+ . Although most of the shop will be leaving early to watch the Buckeyes!
  17. Thanks for the help and quick responses. I'm going to cut it and see what happens.
  18. When I create surface from solid I get 3 separate surfaces along the tube groove. I get marks in the groove where the surfaces meet. I am trying to make it one surface so that doesn't happen. I need to have a mark free tube groove when done. Someone please tell me if I am approaching this the wrong way
  19. The file is in the Mc9 folder. Just thought I should clearify.
  20. I have uploaded a file called tube groove 2. My problem is when I create a sweep surface in the tube groove everything looks good except the end that flares out. The groove suppose to be symmetrical. I don't have a problem with the toolpath just the surface. I hope I've explained my problem good enough for someone to understand . Looking at the file will help. Thanks
  21. Thanks to all for your help. I beleive this issue is over. I cut a good piece. It still has to get the customers blessing but I don't see any problems. Thanks again, until next time
  22. Simon, I have now changed my cut tolerance from .001 to .0001. I'm using distance for my cut and stepover control both at .010. Should I use scallop height instead? I am running the part again. I will let you know how things work out. Thanks again.
  23. I am getting a super finish on the straight section of my groove and a very choppy finish on the arc.
